- Windows update feature must be set to Install updates automatically (recommended).
- Your computer must be signed in with a Microsoft account.
Step 1:
Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog. Type the following command: WSReset.exe

Windows Store opens, in the search bar at the top right corner, type Windows 8.1 Update. If not found, restart your computer. Then reopen Windows Store and search for Windows 8.1 update as before.
Step 2: If the above method doesn't work, try this step:
- Install update package KB2871389 for smoother Windows 8.1 update installation process
+ For Windows 32-bit systems, search KB2871389 update x86 on Google
+ For Windows 64-bit systems, search KB2871389 update or KB2871389 update x64 on Google
- Then click on Download to save it to your device
- Click on Save File, then click OK
- Press Open to install as usual.
After installation, restart your device. Then go to Windows Store and search for Windows 8.1 update. Same as step 1.
