Hearing of the Hung King's contest, young men from all over competed to return to the capital. These young men were all handsome and talented in both literary and martial arts. Eventually, he set a dowry consisting of: one hundred sticky rice cakes, two hundred square glutinous rice cakes, a nine-tusked elephant, nine-spurred roosters, nine red-maned horses; whoever brought the dowry first would marry the princess. The next morning, Son Tinh arrived early with the full dowry and proudly escorted Mi Nuong back to the mountains. Thuy Tinh, arriving later, saw Mi Nuong taken by Son Tinh and became furious, leading his troops to pursue and attempt to seize Mi Nuong.
