1. Narrate the fable of The Fortune Teller and the Elephant
During a slow sales day, five fortune tellers sat chatting, lamenting their ignorance about the appearance of elephants. Just as they were discussing this, someone mentioned that an elephant was passing by. Intrigued, the five fortune tellers pooled money to reward the caretaker and control the elephant, requesting it to stop for observation. However, each fortune teller observed the elephant differently, touching different parts like the trunk, tusks, legs, ears, or tail. After satisfying their curiosity, the fortune tellers sat down to discuss. The one who touched the trunk described the elephant as smooth and thin like a louse. The tusks toucher disagreed, claiming it felt like a handle of a plough. The ear toucher dismissed the opinions of the other two, asserting that the elephant resembled a winnowing fan. The last one, who touched the tail, concluded that all four were wrong; the elephant had a shape like a broom's tuft. As each fortune teller believed in their own correctness and deemed others wrong, a heated argument ensued, leading to a brawl with bloodshed.
2. Narrate the fable of Two Companions and the Bear
One morning, while strolling together on the forest trail, the two friends unexpectedly encountered a bear. As the bear suddenly lunged at them, catching both off guard, the friend in the lead luckily spotted a tree branch, grabbed it, and climbed up, concealing themselves among the lush foliage. The friend behind, seeing the dire situation ahead and feeling abandoned, decided to lie flat on the ground, burying their face in the sand. The bear, noticing someone lying on the ground, approached for inspection. It sniffed and poked the ear of the prone friend but couldn't identify anything. Thinking the person on the ground was dead, the bear let out a long howl and shook its head before walking away. Seeing the ferocious bear had gone, the friend in the tree descended and approached the one on the ground, asking, 'Did the bear whisper something to you?' Disappointed by their friend's abandonment during the crisis, the person on the ground replied, 'He said not to trust those who abandon friends in times of trouble.'
3. Narrate the fable of Legs, Hands, Ears, Eyes, and Mouth
The community of Mr. Ear, old Mr. Mouth, Mrs. Eye, Master Leg, and Master Hand enjoyed a peaceful coexistence. Suddenly, one day, Mrs. Eye complained to Master Leg and Master Hand about everyone toiling day in and day out, while old Mr. Mouth did nothing but sit and eat. So, she proposed that Master Leg and Master Hand stop working to see if Mr. Mouth could survive. Hearing this, Master Leg, Master Hand, and Mr. Mouth all agreed to meet and discuss the decision. On their way to Mr. Mouth's house, they passed by Mr. Ear's place and stopped to inform him that everyone would stop working to feed Mr. Mouth. Eventually, Mr. Ear, Mrs. Eye, Master Leg, and Master Hand reached Mr. Mouth's house. Without exchanging greetings, they bluntly declared that none of them would do anything to feed Mr. Mouth anymore. Faced with this unexpected turn of events, old Mr. Mouth was surprised and wanted to discuss the matter together, but no one agreed. Mr. Ear, Mrs. Eye, Master Leg, and Master Hand remained adamant about not discussing further. After stating their decision, they all left. Days passed with none of them doing anything. They thought this would make life easier, but instead, they all became exhausted. Mrs. Eye was always drowsy, her eyelids heavy as if sleepy but unable to sleep. Old Mr. Mouth felt a constant rumble inside. Master Leg and Master Hand were tired, not wanting to engage in their usual playful activities. Realizing their mistake, Mr. Ear explained to Mrs. Eye, Master Leg, and Master Hand. Understanding the situation, all four reluctantly got up to visit Mr. Mouth. Upon arrival, they found Mr. Mouth in a dire state with parched lips and dry teeth. Seeing this, Mr. Ear and Mrs. Eye helped Mr. Mouth up, while Master Leg and Master Hand went to find nourishment. After Mr. Mouth received a balanced diet, everyone felt refreshed and cheerful again. From then on, Mr. Mouth, Mr. Ear, Mrs. Eye, Master Leg, and Master Hand lived harmoniously, each diligently carrying out their responsibilities without envy or neglect.

4. Narrate the fable of The Plough Path:
Once upon a time, there was a carpenter who decided to carve a plough to sell, using three hundred coins to buy wood for the task.
As he set up a shop by the roadside, many people came to see. One day, a visitor approached and said:
'He must plow high for easy cultivation,' he heard. Following this advice, others suggested plowing smaller for better results. Then, someone advised him to plow three or four times larger for efficient field clearing. The carpenter, knowing the drill, plowed as many times larger and tried to sell the large plows. Time passed, and despite following everyone's advice, he couldn't sell a single one. In the end, all the damaged wood had to be discarded. Only then did he regret his actions.
Because of this, the saying 'Plowing in the middle of the road' came about to admonish those lacking in principles and causing the loss of their livelihoods.
'Anh phải đẽo cho cao, thế thì mới dễ cày' is a Vietnamese proverb that means 'He must plow high for easy cultivation.' It warns against blindly following advice without critical thinking.
5. Retell Trang Tử's fable 'The Frog at the Bottom of the Well':
The collapsed well was the familiar dwelling place for the little frog. One day, while sitting in the well, it shared its emotions with a large sea turtle about the joy of living in the well. The frog felt elated as it could freely come and go. It believed no creature was happier than itself, having the well all to itself and the freedom to swim. Later, the frog invited the turtle to join in:
- 'Why don't you come into my well for a moment?'
Seeing this, the large turtle complied. However, as soon as it put its left leg into the well, the right leg got stuck, sealing the well's mouth. Pulling its leg out, the turtle spoke about the vastness of the eastern sea: - 'The eastern sea is boundless, thousands of miles permeated, deep and profound, thousands of fathoms reached. From the time of King Vu to the era of King Thang, the eastern sea has remained unchanged. That is the great joy of the eastern sea.'
Hearing this, the frog was extremely surprised, feeling shocked and perplexed.
6. Retell the fable of The Termite and the Ant:
The termite, comfortably situated in its nest, observed a group of ants carrying prey back to their colony. Mockingly, it exclaimed, 'Ants, you toil every day. Why subject yourselves to such hardship?' The termite, living a life of leisure without needing to work, felt superior. In response, the ant explained that its labor was for the colony, for the nest. It accused the termite of not contributing, neglecting its dwelling. The ant warned that if the termite continued to hollow out everything, it would eventually perish due to its own actions.
7. Retell the fable of The Meaningful Tiger:
Mrs. Tran was a renowned midwife in Dong Trieu district. One night, hearing a knock at the door, she opened it to find no one. Suddenly, a tiger appeared and gestured for her to follow. Terrified, she followed. When she regained consciousness, she saw the tiger running with one leg and splitting the path. Reaching a deep mountain in the forest, the tiger stopped and released her. Before her, a female tiger was in pain, and Mrs. Tran, thinking it wanted to eat her, was scared and dared not move. Seeing the female tiger shedding tears and her belly moving, Mrs. Tran quickly mixed delivery-inducing medicine with spring water and gave it to her. Feeling relief from the pain, the female tiger allowed Mrs. Tran to rub her belly. Shortly after, the female tiger gave birth. Joy was evident in the playful interaction with her cub. The male tiger approached, bowed before the ground, then presented a silver block. Understanding it as a gift, Mrs. Tran accepted it carefully. Guided by the tiger, she left the forest. When she was far away, the tiger roared loudly and returned to the woods. At home, Mrs. Tran weighed the silver and found it to be more than ten taels. In a year of crop failure, she survived thanks to that silver.
A peasant, searching for firewood at the foot of a Lang Giang mountain, noticed the trees in the valley trembling vigorously. Out of curiosity, he approached with a hammer. Upon arrival, he witnessed a white-faced tiger, as large as a bull, struggling, rolling, occasionally using its paw to clear its throat, mouth wide open, blood flowing profusely. The peasant, noticing a bone deeply lodged in its throat, bravely climbed a tree and shouted, 'Don't bite me; I'll help you get the bone.' The tiger, hearing this, lay down, mouth agape. The peasant, summoning all his courage, reached into its throat, retrieving a bone as large as an arm. The tiger licked its lips, walked away, occasionally glancing back at the peasant. The peasant shouted loudly, sharing details about his home and making a pact to remember each other if they ever had something delicious. After a few days at home, the peasant heard a loud noise outside the door. The next morning, he opened the door to find a dead deer lying there. Many years later, the peasant passed away. As he was about to be buried, the tiger arrived at the grave. It rubbed its head against the coffin, roared loudly, and circled around. Since then, every year on the anniversary of the peasant's death, the tiger brought prey it had hunted to place in front of the house. This continued for decades.
