Prompt: Retell the story of Saint Gióng in your own words
Recount the legend of Saint Gióng using your creative imagination
Task:
In the 6th grade Literature program, I have learned many folk tales and legends. But my favorite is the legend of Saint Gióng. The story recounts the heroic deeds of a national defender against invaders.
During the sixth Hung King's reign, in Gióng village, there was a poor elderly couple. Despite their hard work, they remained childless. One day, the wife saw a large footprint in the field and stepped into it. Surprisingly, she became pregnant. In the twelfth month, she gave birth to a handsome and robust boy named Gióng. However, their joy turned to worry when Gióng reached the age of three and still couldn't speak or laugh.
At that time, invaders threatened our country's borders. The king was extremely worried and sent messengers to search for a talented individual to save the nation. Upon hearing the messenger's plea, young Gióng suddenly spoke, asking his mother to bring the messenger to meet him. Overjoyed to hear her son speak, Gióng's mother rushed to invite the messenger. When they met, Gióng instructed the messenger to go to the king and request the forging of an iron armor, an iron horse, and an iron whip. The king was delighted and ordered the craftsmen to work day and night.
