Once upon a time, there was a legend about a nobleman named Lac Long Quan who resided in the land of Lac Viet. He possessed extraordinary talent and virtues, being of dragon descent. Lac Long Quan was the son of the Dragon God and demonstrated a sincere heart towards his people along with exceptional martial arts skills. He often ventured to the mainland to help eradicate evil spirits and teach farming techniques to the people. He was beloved by all for his kindness and expertise. During that time, in the highlands of the northern region, there was a beautiful maiden named Au Co. She was the daughter of the God of Agriculture, closely associated with the cultivation of crops for the people. Entranced by the tales of the fragrant flowers and lush grasslands of Lac Viet, she sought permission from her royal father to visit the land. There, she met Lac Long Quan, and they fell in love, eventually becoming husband and wife, residing in the land of Long Trang.
After some time, Au Co became pregnant and gave birth to a large sac containing a hundred eggs. After seven days, these eggs hatched into a hundred children. Being descendants of deities, their features were divine and they grew rapidly without the need for maternal nourishment, yet they were incredibly robust and talented. Despite living with his wife and children on the mainland for a while, Lac Long Quan felt a yearning for his homeland. The intense homesickness weighed heavily on his heart, causing him great inner turmoil. Ultimately, Lac Long Quan decided to return to his place of birth. Seeing her husband determined to leave, Au Co, overwhelmed with sadness, pleaded with Lac Long Quan:
- How could you bear to leave me and your children behind in this desolate place? Won't you stay and care for us, and teach our children?
Lac Long Quan deeply loved his wife and children, tenderly explaining his feelings to her:
- I belong to the dragon lineage in the aquatic palace, amidst waters, and seas, while you are a fairy of the terrestrial realm, dwelling in the majestic mountains and hills. Our customs and habits are vastly different. Hence, it would be challenging for us to live together harmoniously for long. I hope you understand my heart.
