For those who haven't had the chance to play the initial game or can't recall what happened, Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of Mystical Dreams offers a story recap video. Players can access the recap from the Start menu.
In part 2, characters Sophie and Plachta are drawn into the dream world of Erde Wiege. Sophie awakens and is aided by a kind girl named Alette. Their mission becomes clear: find Plachta and find a way back home.
The graphics resemble those of other Atelier games, featuring stunning imagery inspired by anime. However, it's worth noting that this game is fully voiced in Japanese, so players who dislike subtitles may opt to skip this title.
As characters wander through Roytale in Sophie 2, there are plenty of lively characters to converse with. Players will receive additional detailed information about this world, alchemical crafting formulas, and more.
Next, players will step into the fields to gather alchemical materials and engage in combat with monsters. The gathering process may become somewhat tedious, as Sophie pauses and bends down every time a player picks up an item, taking up a bit of time. Nonetheless, upon collecting certain specific items, players will receive additional rewards.
The combat system here operates on a turn-based basis. Sophie 2 stands out with dual-activation skills, allowing players to battle simultaneously with one member of the party, with each party consisting of 6 members.
The alchemy aspect of this section is rather complex. However, with some perseverance and experimentation, players can create some highly impressive items, such as weapons and bombs for use in battle.
Initially, players will have a small list of items they can create, but gradually, they will gather more items along with alchemical formulas. Players should endeavor to create as many gathering tools as possible in the early stages to explore more primary gathering locations and craft some powerful items right from the start.
Another new feature is the Dreamscape Stones. These special stones enable players to alter the weather in certain designated areas. For example, the first time you use this item, an area experiencing continuous rainfall will transform into sunny skies, allowing you to traverse what was previously a flooded map.
This could potentially become one of the favorite games of 2022. Players have the option to play Atelier Sophie 2 on various platforms to experience an engaging role-playing game with a unique gameplay style and a captivating story.
