Performance Evaluation of Canon 5DS
The Canon EOS 5DS is all about delivering high-resolution images, eliminating low-pass filter effects that tend to blur images.
Better image quality is achieved through the full-frame sensor and dual Digic 6 image processor. It utilizes all of its 50.6-megapixel count, making it the highest-resolution sensor EOS has ever used, surpassing the 36.3 megapixels of the Nikon D810. And with various crop modes, while still maintaining high pixel count. Performance also doesn't falter in video. When shooting, it can handle up to 5 continuous frames per second if you're shooting RAW files.
Thanks to the anti-flicker feature, the shutter speed will adjust according to the environment. If you're in uneven lighting conditions, the camera will detect flickering and then capture the image when it reaches its brightest.
About the Design
The Canon 5DS is quite hefty, weighing almost twice as much as the Canon EOS Rebel T6i at 2.05 pounds. A chunk of that weight is due to the battery. It's a fantastic battery, capable of enduring around 700 shots, but that's if you're not using Live View. And if you do, you'll get about 550 shots. The buttons on the Canon EOS 5DS, such as dynamic range and ISO settings, can range from 100-6,400. Setting the ISO to 6,400 is a high ISO, but it can be expanded.
Value Proposition
The value proposition here is rather niche. On the other hand, Canon isn't lazy when it comes to producing high-quality DSLR cameras or any cameras for that matter. However, we can't recommend this camera for beginners. But for advanced/professional users? Absolutely! Only they have the knowledge and skills to use (and understand) the various settings and adjustments that an inexperienced photographer would struggle with. Not to mention the price isn't suitable for beginners' pockets, especially when Canon lenses aren't part of the package.
Canon EOS 5DS Review Summary
The Canon EOS 5DS is an impressive DSLR camera that excels not only in capturing high-quality images but also in just about any environment. Its dedicated anti-flicker function has to go through a long journey before it can turn that into a reality, and it's bound to succeed—so make the most of its long battery life. As great as this DSLR camera is, it's not for beginners.
