Overall Evaluation
Jays excels in developing earphones suitable for various needs and price ranges. Similar to their mid-range reference plugs like Q-Jays or u-Jays Wireless. Jays X-Five Wireless comes at a lower price point, as well as the completely new a-Seven Wireless.
However, this is a more compact pair of street headphones, foldable completely to fit into a jacket pocket in case of emergency. For obvious reasons, they don't exude luxury like the u-Jays since most of it is made of plastic. Nevertheless, the quality feel is there, and no part of the build feels fragile. Both the ear pads and headband are wrapped in synthetic leather. Hence, they feel soft and comfortable, and easy to keep clean. The padding is made of self-shaping foam for the head. As the headphones are also the lightest in the test, you almost forget you're wearing them.
The control buttons are three small buttons at the bottom right of the watch. It's not entirely successful, as you really have to feel with your thumb and hope it's the right button. Next to it is the connection for the audio cable if you want to connect them to a non-wireless audio source. On the second clock is the USB connection for charging. Unfortunately, there is an old micro-USB connection, so there's no fast charging for the headphones. Jays also lacks an app for more headphone settings or sound configurations.
Overall, the x-Five Wireless has sound quality as good as you can expect in its price range. They're not neutral, but they've boosted midrange and bass, which can be good for lifting songs out of the mix. However, if you want a bit of detail, the bass tends to become sharp when pushed. The bass is deep enough, but not overly verbose, something that might be missed in a pair of street headphones.
Conclusion
In some ways, the Jays x-Five Wireless passes the checklist for a pair of street headphones. They can be folded and made compact for easy carrying. They're lightweight and well-padded, making them sit on the head very comfortably. The battery life is good enough to last all day. Furthermore, you won't be ashamed of their appearance. Surprisingly, they lack overpowering bass, but perhaps many of us actually like that as it marks a departure from the norm.
