Lenovo's Yoga laptops have long been favored for their slim, lightweight design and versatile 360-degree rotating screens. The Lenovo Yoga Duet 7 takes it a step further, transforming into a compact tablet. With decent specs and a sharp 2K touchscreen display, paired with a stylus for drawing, this is a laptop for creative minds.
Join me in exploring how this shape-shifting laptop has fared over the past month, and whether it has lived up to its promise.
Hands-on Experience with Lenovo Yoga Duet 7Unique Design
The Lenovo Yoga Duet 7 boasts a unique color palette, combining wine red and purple. Crafted entirely from solid aluminum, its smooth exterior retains a beautiful sheen. To ensure a comfortable grip, the device utilizes a metal alloy that resists sweat and fingerprints, requiring regular cleaning to maintain its luster.
Simple, elegant design with distinctive colors.Resembling a seamless laptop, yet with a detachable screen and keyboard akin to the Microsoft Surface Studio, the design is truly unique. Detaching and reattaching is effortless and swift with just a single hand movement. The hinge between the screen and keyboard is seamlessly sturdy.Once the screen and keyboard are reattached, the bottom bezel of the screen is protected by a velvety fabric layer from the magnetic keyboard hinge assembly. This is a subtle yet refined addition by Lenovo, ensuring that when we stand the screen upright and type, the bottom bezel remains unscratched or dented.
The hinge at the rear of the device is sturdy and reliable. Both the device and keyboard, when folded, achieve an impressive thinness of only 9mm, designed with a compact 13-inch footprint. Weighing in at just 802g, it occupies minimal space when placed in a backpack, crossbody bag, or canvas tote. Holding the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7 in hand feels akin to holding a thin book or an iPad. Truly a versatile 2-in-1 device.
Holding the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7 in hand feels incredibly slim and lightweight. On the back of the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7 screen sits a centrally positioned camera, with the YOGA logo prominently displayed in the upper left corner, gleaming and eye-catching. The entire back surface is divided by a line in the middle, with the lower half serving as a stable base for the screen to stand on.The hinge part of this stand feels sturdy to me, with no wobbling or instability. There are no unnecessary sounds or flimsiness when opening and closing.
The back stand part of the screen is quite sturdy and does not wobble. The accompanying stylus has a relatively large diameter and feels heavy to hold due to its use of two AAA batteries. However, it's a valuable tool for those who enjoy drawing or quickly jotting down information more accurately and efficiently than using a mouse and keyboard. The responsiveness of the stylus on the touchscreen is also very sensitive, though unfortunately, it lacks the pressure sensitivity of the Apple Pencil 2.After using it for a while, I noticed a specific issue: the device and keyboard do not support the stylus. This means I have to keep the stylus separately and sometimes have to search to find where it is, or where it might be stuck in my backpack.
Screen and Touch
The touchscreen display of the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7 is an IPS LCD panel with a 2K resolution (2160 x 1350), 13-inch size, 450 nits brightness, and coated with an anti-glare layer. Not stopping there, the panel used on the Yoga Duet 7 is the CSOT T3 LEN8290, delivering incredibly vibrant colors. With 98.6% sRGB, 71.1% AdobeRGB, 69% DCI-P3, it's perfect for designers who require precise color reproduction.
The screen tends to glare and reflect a lot when outdoors. The touch-sensitive part of the screen, when touched with a finger instead of a stylus, tends to blur more quickly due to sweat and dirt than other tablets after just a few swipes. The screen bezel doesn't look overly sleek, but it's practical and harmonizes well with the machine's design. There are plenty of hand resting points to avoid accidentally touching the touchscreen.
The screen appears quite blurry and smudged after using the touch function with fingers. The screen of the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7 has a brightness of 450 nits. When taken to outdoor cafes for work, the machine encounters issues with glare due to ambient light. This affects the display quality of the device.
If you need to edit photos, doing so in a room with just the right amount of light would be more suitable for this laptop.
Photo Editing on Lenovo Yoga Duet 7When outdoors, the screen is very bright, but when indoors, you can truly appreciate the image quality that the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7 provides. The screen brightness indoors decreases to 70%. Whether using the stylus, touch, or interacting with the screen, everything is very responsive. The images I put into editing software come out with accurate colors, sharpness, and vibrant appeal.
Detachable Keyboard and Trackpad
The detachable folio keyboard of the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7 has a design and layout similar to other Lenovo laptops, with reasonable key sizes and layout. The keys provide a subtle typing experience, with a comfortable bounce and key travel. When detached from the screen, the keyboard can connect via Bluetooth to other laptops and tablets. With a relatively small trackpad, the operation doesn't feel particularly smooth or comfortable. However, the touch sensitivity is excellent, with smooth single taps, double taps, screen scrolling, and zooming in and out.
Experience with the machine's keyboard and touchpadLaptop-Grade Tablet
The Lenovo Yoga Duet 7 is equipped with a standard office configuration, featuring an i5-1135G7 chip, 8GB of RAM, Intel Iris Xe GPU, and 512GB of internal storage. This configuration is adequate for office tasks such as Excel, document editing, photo editing, and light online gaming. However, RAM and storage capacity cannot be upgraded. The machine's hard drive read/write speed is sufficiently fast for data transmission. Moreover, when using graphic design software or playing games, the software loading speed is acceptable, not excessively long. Booting up online games like Teamfight Tactics takes less than a minute to reach the main interface of the Riot Client.

On the left side of the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7, there are 3 Type-C ports, including 1 ThunderBolt 4 port and the rest supporting fast data transfer and PD 3.0 charging standards. This facilitates connecting to multiple devices and rapidly charging the battery.
On the left side of the laptop and its connectivity portsAdditionally, the laptop also features a 4G SIM slot, a common sight on business laptops often used for frequent mobility. This eliminates the dependency on Wi-Fi networks or the inconvenience of using mobile hotspots, which drain both data and heat up the phone.
On the right side of the laptop and its connectivity portsThe stereo speakers of the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7 are located above the screen with DOLBY sound. With each speaker only delivering 1W, the sound output is not too loud, merely sufficient for basic personal space needs.
The Dolby Audio speakers are situated on the top edge of the laptopBattery Life
The Lenovo Yoga Duet 7 boasts a 3-cell 41Wh battery, trading off space within the device, resulting in a decent but not outstanding battery life. When used for outdoor browsing, the battery lasts over 2 hours at maximum brightness, with the device heating up quickly. Operating in a cold room extends both temperature and battery life significantly, yielding around 3.5 hours at 70% brightness.
On the flip side, the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7 can achieve 3 hours of continuous usage after just a 15-minute charge, which is quite impressive. A full charge takes only 1 hour and 15 minutes. If you're looking for a tablet to browse and entertain yourself all day, this might not be the best choice.
Summary
After over a month of using the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7, this laptop is highly suitable and flexible for creative professionals or those on the go. While outdoor visibility isn't perfect, the ability to jot down notes and sketch ideas on the wide screen still provides high efficiency in work.
