Let's get rid of the worst words in this review: the charging case of the Lypertek Soundfree S20 isn't a highlight. You can only place it down, it's made of cheap black plastic, and it's a fingerprint magnet. The four LED lights on the front of the case are very small so you can hardly see them from different angles. However, it can charge via USB-C and wirelessly.
In-ear headphones may not be beautiful, but they're smart little gadgets. When not in use, their LED lights will flash accurately in the logo and you can't miss the actual metal buttons on both sides. These large buds give you access to all controls – and they provide reliable feedback and a sturdy feel. The S20 buds are IPX5 water-resistant, meaning they'll survive your sweat and heavy rain when you're working or exercising with them.
These things can definitely get the job done. The S20 in-ear headphones have an oval shape on the inside and a shaped ear tip to ensure a snug fit. They're not the smallest buds, but they feel comfortable enough to wear for hours.
You can also do this: Lypertek Soundfree S20 offers excellent battery life of up to 8 hours on a single charge. The charging case can fully charge them four times before needing a new power source or you can recharge them in 15 minutes to listen for an additional two hours. Amazing.
CONNECTIVITY AND CONTROLS
S20 is controlled by practical silver buttons on both earbuds. It's convenient to have buttons you can press and even better if they're on both sides, so you don't have to push the earbuds every time you operate them. The control scheme is logical:
- Press L or R to play/pause
- Press R twice to skip a track
- Press L twice to go back to a previous track
- Hold R to increase volume
- Hold L to decrease volume
- Press L or R three times to activate Transparent Mode
- Activate voice assistant by double pressing L or R when not playing music
The connection on S20 is very solid. The buds connect quickly when taken out of the case and maintain their Bluetooth signal easily up to ten meters away from your device.
You can also continue listening with one earbud while charging the other and switch back to stereo sound mode once you place the charged earbud back.
NOISE CANCELLATION AND AMBIENT MODE
Lypertek Soundfree S20 lacks active noise cancellation (ANC) feature, meaning it doesn't actively block out noise from your surrounding environment. However, due to its ear-shaped design, its passive noise isolation capability is very good. Listening to music at a low volume is sufficient to drown out the world around you.
The transparent/Ambient modes are a bit of an unnecessary feature. This mode, intended to allow you to hear passing traffic or conversations around you while listening to music, lets you hear some surrounding traffic, but not clearly enough to hear approaching cars. It also activates and deactivates with an annoying beep and emits a lot of wind noise when activated. Again, this mode rarely stands out on wireless earbuds when you're listening to music at moderate levels.
SOUND QUALITY OF LYPERTEK S20
'Clean and balanced sound with good bass'. That's how Lypertek describes the sound of the compact Soundfree S20. While technically accurate, they're too modest.
The midrange of Soundfree S20 is very clear and powerful. Vocals at the forefront and center stage – from the lowest male to the highest female voices reveal detail and texture. They're surrounded by impressive instrumentals.
Praiseworthy Bass: Lypertek boasts powerful yet controlled bass that avoids being bloated. Its supplementary bass – the most palpable bass you'll feel the most – contributes to the greatness, producing controlled thumps and rumbling vibrations.
Although the lower midrange is less pronounced, it plays the smallest role in music. In dance tracks, darker electronic tones ensure enough flow, but when they decrease slightly, expect neutral mid-tones rather than warmth. Soundfree S20 isn't meant for background music listeners, those who simply want smooth and cozy background sound. It's for active listeners: it overwhelms you with detail, it punches, it kicks, it continues to engage your attention.
REMARKS
Great control capability and excellent battery life are just bonuses for the Lypertek Soundfree S20. With superbly natural, clear, and vividly lifelike sound, this is worth every penny.
