THE JOYS
They all sit on the wooden planks under the beech tree and chat. Flower says:
- The hive has some joyous news. Look, I have a new beautiful hairband.
- The hive also has some joyous news. - Hong adds. - I just got a box of colored pencils.
- So what's there to be happy about? - Hung chimes in. - I have a fishing rod. I can catch as many fish as I want.
- Only Tuan seems to have nothing joyous. - Flower says. - He doesn't say anything.
- Yes, he does, I saw a flower. - Tuan quickly says. They all ask excitedly:
- What flower?
- A flower in the forest! Amidst the grass. It was springtime. Even though it was dark, the flower was as white as if the sky was still bright.
They all burst into laughter:
- And you call that a joyous tale!
- I even saw a winter house, covered in fog. Then suddenly the sun shone down. One side was bright blue. The other was flushed red. Everything was glowing.
- You're just good at imagining. There's no blue or red. You don't have anything joyful anymore, do you?
- Yes, I do. - Tuan replies. - Once, I saw a silver fish.
- Are you going to fabricate another story? - Hung laughs out loud.
- No, not at all. - Tuan says. - After the rain stopped, there was a clear puddle under the apple tree. Then the sun shone on it. The wind blew gently. Ripples formed, and the silver fish sparkled in it.
- There's nothing joyful about that. - Flower, Hung laugh uproariously. Only Hong seems contemplative:
- Perhaps his joys are greater than ours. He sees them in things we do not see.
