The Huawei Matebook D16's design is spacious yet refined
True to its title, the Huawei Matebook D16 boasts a rather large design, measuring 356.7 x 248.7 x 18.4 mm. Overall, this laptop is quite sizable in the market and can be compared to some other gaming models. However, the device is exceptionally slim and compact in design, resembling many other Ultrabooks on the market with its solid metal construction providing a cool touch.

Moreover, the Huawei Matebook D16 weighs only about 1.7 kg, so users can comfortably take it outside. Personally, throwing it into a backpack still leaves room for a mechanical keyboard, mouse, or even an iPad, and it still feels very comfortable.

Turning to the underside of the Huawei Matebook D16, it's similar to many other Ultrabook models with speakers on both sides and a central cooling system. Huawei has done a great job here as the laptop remains cool even after extended use. As for the keyboard area, Huawei Matebook D16's profile is slightly lower than the wrist rest area.

Overall, it's hard to find fault with the overall design of the Huawei Matebook D16. The entire body is crafted from metal, providing a premium, luxurious feel. Despite its size, it's still relatively lightweight for easy portability.

Huawei Matebook D16 offers ample connectivity ports, providing a great keyboard experience
With the Huawei Matebook D16, I'm quite satisfied with its comprehensive array of ports. Specifically, this laptop features 2 USB-C ports, 1 HDMI port, 1 standard 3.5mm headphone jack on the left side, and 2 USB-A ports on the right side. The arrangement of ports on the Huawei Matebook D16 is convenient for me as I often use a dual-monitor setup and place the laptop on the right side for easy viewing.
When it comes to the keyboard of the Huawei Matebook D16, it still features a chiclet design with a full-size layout, moderate key spacing, resulting in excellent typing experience with minimal errors. With the full-size layout, we naturally have the numeric keypad on the right side, which helps me input data faster, providing a familiar feeling that I haven't had in a long time.

Moving on to the trackpad of the Huawei Matebook D16, it leans slightly to the left, which may not look pleasing initially, but with prolonged use, I've grown accustomed to it, so take your time getting used to it. The tracking experience on the Huawei Matebook D16 trackpad isn't overly smooth due to a certain level of friction. Therefore, I typically use an external mouse for added comfort.
The Huawei Matebook D16's 16-inch display is incredibly large, offering an excellent viewing experience
When talking about Huawei laptops, they are often associated with numbers that indicate the screen size of the product. The Huawei Matebook D16 is no exception, featuring a fairly large 16-inch display. Of course, the device still retains the true ultrabook nature with extremely thin bezels, measuring only 2-3 mm, providing an incredibly comfortable viewing experience.

In terms of display quality, the Huawei MateBook D16 boasts Full HD+ resolution (1,920 x 1,200 pixels), using an IPS panel to deliver sharp images, true-to-life colors with 100% sRGB color gamut coverage. Additionally, the Huawei MateBook D16 features a modern 16:10 aspect ratio, providing a more comfortable viewing experience compared to the 16:9 ratio of yesteryears.

Additionally, the Huawei MateBook D16 offers users a display with a brightness of 300 nits, along with TÜV Rheinland certification for blue light emission. This allows for a more comfortable usage experience, but I still recommend working in a well-lit environment and maintaining a proper distance from the screen!

As you can see above, the Huawei Matebook D16 is equipped with the Intel Core i5-12450H processor. This chip is highly rated for its strong performance, capable of handling various tasks including graphic design, office work, architecture, and more. Additionally, there's a higher-end version of this laptop available with the Intel Core i5-1240P, but the model I'm using has already met my satisfaction. Without further ado, let's evaluate the performance of the Huawei Matebook D16 through benchmark tests like GeekBench 5, CineBench R23, 3DMark, and PCMark for a more comprehensive understanding.
The specific results I obtained are as follows:
- GeekBench 5:
- Single-core/Multi-core: 1,469 points/7,642 points.
- GPU Compute: 9,750 points.

- Cinebench R23 (Single-core/Multi-core): 1,476 points/8,435 points.

- 3DMark: 970 points.

- PCMark 10: 4,546 points.

With such scores, I believe the Huawei Matebook D16 can easily meet all your requirements at a good level or above. Of course, the machine also benefits from the support of the integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics card, so gaming performance is decent with titles like FiFa Online 4, League of Legends, Valorant, etc. When playing FiFa Online 4 on the Huawei Matebook D16, I maxed out all graphics settings and the gaming experience was relatively smooth, although occasional FPS drops occurred, which could be due to less-than-optimal network quality!

In addition, I tested the speed of the SSD on the Huawei Matebook D16 using Crystal Diskmark software, and the results were quite impressive, not far behind gaming models, specifically as follows:
- Read speed: 3,492 MB/s.
- Write speed: 2,389 MB/s.

The Huawei Matebook D16 has excellent battery life and temperature optimization
With the Huawei Matebook D16, I'm quite satisfied with the device's battery life when using it outdoors, as it can last nearly 4 hours with multiple tabs open in Chrome, Zalo, Messenger, Line, Adobe Photoshop, with the screen brightness set to 100%. This is a pretty good amount of time for me to complete my tasks before needing to recharge.
According to my real-world test from 100% battery, but in the Batterymon software (which I use to test laptop battery), the Huawei Matebook D16 gave slightly different results. I've divided it into two scenarios for easier understanding.
- Scenario 1: Regular tasks with no gaming:
- Battery life: 4 hours 23 minutes.
- Test duration: 1 hour.
- Screen 100%, volume 70%, and battery saver mode off.
- Mouse connected.

- Scenario 2: Regular tasks with 20 minutes of gaming:
- Battery life: 2 hours 51 minutes.
- Test duration: 1 hour.
- Screen 100% without battery saver mode.
- Backlit keyboard on.
- Wired headphones used, speaker volume at 70%.
- Mouse connected.

Based on the measured results, the Huawei Matebook D16 will satisfy you with its usage time. Moreover, throughout the usage process, whether unplugged or plugged in to reach 100% power, I haven't noticed the device getting too hot. Even during gaming, it only warms up slightly! This is possible thanks to its large design, providing more space for heat dissipation. I used HWinFO64 software to check the device's cooling capability. The results I obtained are as shown in the image below.

The CPU temperature of this laptop is around 63 - 80 degrees Celsius, not too hot, just slightly warm. The temperature increase may be due to playing FIFA Online 4, causing the GPU of the Huawei Matebook D16 to work quite a bit.
Conclusion
Currently, the Huawei Matebook D16 is available in Vietnam at a price of 21.690 million VND for the Intel Core i5-12450H version and 22.990 million VND for the Intel Core i5-1240P version. This price range is extremely suitable for what this device offers and is worth considering if you need a high-performance device with a full-size keyboard for data input and a beautiful, compact, and lightweight design!
