The feasibility study indicates the Tháp Chàm - Đà Lạt rail line passes through Phan Rang city, Ninh Sơn, Ninh Thuận to Đơn Dương, Đà Lạt in Lâm Đồng, extending over 83 km with over 16 stations and stops, adding two stations and stops compared to the previous route. The project is scheduled from January 2025 to June 2029.

The project comprises two phases. The first involves restoring the 76 km stretch from Tháp Chàm, Ninh Thuận to Trại Mát, Đà Lạt, including bridge, tunnel, and station reconstruction. The second phase upgrades the 6.7 km section from Trại Mát to Đà Lạt station, currently operational, and conserves Đà Lạt and Trại Mát stations. This railway is unique for its rack-and-pinion track, enabling it to ascend from the coastal area to the Lâm Viên highlands, with rack-and-pinion wheels also fitted in the locomotive for navigating steep gradients.
