Sometimes, a sleek device concept grabs attention, especially amidst a sea of Swiss brands chasing after a conventional trend embodied by Longines, continuously unveiling designs rooted in outdated aesthetics from the 60s, 70s, or 80s. Nostalgia doesn't always make a watch appealing, especially for the younger generation who express their personality through vibrant and bold colors on their attire. This is when the concept named Clean Watch by designer Ye Hongting comes into the picture.
The 3D rendering concept from this designer can be seen as a manifesto of minimalism enthusiasts. That's others' opinion. But for me, this piece immediately evokes inspiration from two brands, not the most famous but certainly the most innovative in the market: Ochs und Junior and Ressence.Instead of following the path of other classic watch brands, maximizing every square millimeter on the dial of less than 5cm in diameter to display time, the face of the Clean Watch is dominated by a single giant dial with only 4 hour markers at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o'clock, and the Clean logo right in the center. So how do you tell time? The hours, minutes, and seconds are simulated by three 'mini planets' orbiting around the center of the watch for you to read the time.

There's a feeling that this watch design is heavily influenced by technology. You see, while phone companies are all racing to achieve the screen-to-front ratio of smartphones, the Clean Watch follows a similar path, but with the application being completely opposite. The total display area of this watch's time is only about 10% of the total front area. And it's hard to ignore the details that the Taiwanese designer has incorporated into his watch concept, elements heavily influenced by the current trend of detailing tech products, like the smooth hour adjustment knob, very difficult to turn if your hands are sweaty, or the lug application holding the rubber strap with gaps.Anyway, beauty lies in the eyes of the romantic beholder, so let's admire this unusual idea:
