Recently, the gaming community has been abuzz with news of Riot's decision to swap out all current in-game names with Riot IDs. This means that within a specific Riot account, in-game names in Valorant, LoL, or TFT will all be changed to Riot IDs with taglines. According to some reports, this transition process is set to officially take place on the upcoming November 20th.

Additionally, players can now have identical names (i.e., matching Riot IDs), as long as their accompanying taglines are different. Each account will be allowed one free Riot ID change per year, and if a change is desired within 30 days of the last edit, players will have to pay around 10 USD (approximately 245,000 VND). In LoL, this change means that gamers will no longer be able to easily alter their in-game names using Name Change Cards priced at 1300 RP (13,900 Essence).

Immediately, this change has sparked mixed reactions from the gaming community, as in-game names are a way for players to express their individuality. Moreover, the prospect of spending money on future Riot ID changes is causing many players concern, especially considering the significant price hike compared to the previous cost, particularly when it's solely for the purpose of a name change. Gamers now have to carefully consider their one free annual Riot ID change if they wish to avoid shelling out additional money for a cool and unique moniker like before.
