A GitHub user named tostercx (or T0st) has shared detailed steps on how they reduced GTA Online's loading time by 70% in a blog post. Returning to the game after a break from the Los Santos world, T0st was 'shocked to find the game still loading slowly like it did many years ago.' Therefore, T0st decided to find ways to improve GTA Online's loading time.
GTA Online loading speed will be improved on PC
The post includes a detailed technical analysis of T0st's process, revealing the root cause as 'single-thread CPU bottleneck,' cautioning that the fix is 'not for the average user,' but estimating that a lone developer at Rockstar could deploy something similar in under a day. However, it will take longer, but according to Rockstar, the official fix is in progress.
Roskstar states: 'After thorough investigation, we can confirm that player t0st has indeed disclosed an aspect of the game code related to the loading time of the PC version of GTA Online that can be improved. The result of these investigations is that we have implemented some changes to be deployed in the upcoming game update.' Rockstar doesn't specify when they plan to release the fix, but after years of slow loading times, at least there's a 'light at the end of the tunnel' for PC players as they will soon be able to load the game faster.
