Windows 11 still hasn't quite hit the mainstream.
As scheduled, Statcounter, the specialized analytics website, has officially released its monthly report, revealing the latest detailed information about the market share of computer operating systems running on all devices globally. According to Statcounter's statistics up to October 2022, the growth trend of Windows 11 is showing signs of slowing down. Microsoft's latest operating system only occupies about 15% of the global market share of Windows PCs. This figure is likely below Microsoft's expectations.

During October, Windows 11's market share experienced a relatively modest increase, climbing from 13.61% to 15.44%, equivalent to a gain of 1.83 points. At present, Windows 11 ranks as the second most popular Windows version worldwide, surpassing Windows 7 (which has been phased out) by 5.83 points, with a market share of 9.61%. Meanwhile, Windows 10 continues to dominate with a market share of 71.29%. Windows 8.1, 8, and XP each hold small remaining portions of the market share, with scores of 2.51%, 0.69%, and 0.39%, respectively. These results to some extent reflect the current situation and user sentiment towards the current Windows versions.
In general, Windows still reigns as the dominant operating system in the global PC market, commanding a share of 75.93% of the computer operating system market worldwide. Following in second place is Apple's macOS with 15.74%, Linux in third with 2.6%, and finally ChromeOS with 2.38%.
Despite Microsoft releasing a new feature update for Windows 11, the development of this operating system may not shine brightly soon. A recent survey also indicates that about half of the devices do not meet the hardware requirements of Windows 11, thus unable to upgrade from Windows 10. Controversial feature changes, high hardware demands, and frequent bugs continue to plague Windows 11, resulting in slower market share growth compared to Windows 10 in its first year on the market.
