A report from TrendForce, a research firm based in Taiwan, cites ICsmart. The current Mac Studio offers options with M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips, introduced at WWDC in June 2023. Therefore, if there's indeed an update for Mac Studio this year, it could potentially be unveiled at WWDC 2023.
Mac Studio M3 Ultra is rumored to launch in mid-2024.Interestingly, the latest report concerning the M3 Ultra chip doesn't mention the new generation Mac Pro. While logically, the Mac Pro would receive an update to include the M3 Ultra chip alongside Mac Studio, as it did last year, this workstation isn't mentioned in the new leak.
Furthermore, TrendForce claims that the M3 Ultra chip will be manufactured using TSMC's N3E node, similar to the A18 chip expected to debut on the 16 series later this year. This means it will be Apple's first N3E chip. The M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips are produced using TSMC's N3B process, similar to the A17 Pro. N3E is an enhanced version of TSMC's 3nm process, offering slightly better performance and higher production yields.
It would be quite peculiar if Apple were to transform M3 Ultra into its first N3E chip, as the company's 'Ultra' chip consists of two 'Max' chips linked through its UltraFusion chip interconnect. This means the N3E M3 Ultra would essentially be two M4 Max chips. Let's wait and see what surprises the 'Apple House' has in store for fans!
