Amidst recent instability in the Egyptian market, Russian tourists have increasingly shifted their focus to traveling to Vietnam. This presents an opportunity for the tourism industry to attract and promote Vietnam's image to a diverse range of international tourists.

It is anticipated that the number of Russian tourists visiting Vietnam during the peak season from November 2013 to April 2014 will surge by over 50% compared to the same period in 2012–2013. In 2012, which was considered a 'boom' year for Russian arrivals in Vietnam, there were over 174,280 visitors, marking a 71% increase from 2011.
During the first 8 months of 2013, Russian tourist arrivals in Vietnam reached 189,317, representing a 63% surge compared to the same period in 2012. Consequently, it is estimated that Vietnam will host approximately 250,000 – 280,000 Russian visitors in 2013.
This serves as a promising signal for Vietnam's tourism sector as Russia is among the targeted markets that the Vietnamese tourism industry is actively striving to attract. As per the plan, aside from the 2 airlines that transported passengers to Vietnam in 2012, there will be an additional 2 airlines this year facilitating Russian tourists to Vietnam through chartered flights.
From November 2013 to April 2014, there is an average of about 72 flights per month bringing Russian tourists to Vietnam, with approximately 4,500 passengers per week. With this surge in capacity, the number of Russian tourists visiting Vietnam during this peak season is expected to rise by about 50% compared to last year.
