Saigon Central Post Office – The Perfect Instagram-Worthy Location
Address: Saigon Central Post Office, 02 Cong Xa Paris Square, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

The history of this building traces back to Vietnam's days as part of French Indochina in the late 19th century. On January 13, 1863, the post office opened its doors to the locals, issuing its first stamp. Designed by Gustave Eiffel, the initial architectural version of the building was established. From 1864, the Saigon Central Post Office gained prominence in the southern regions. Reconstruction took place from 1886 to 1891 by French architect Villedieu, giving rise to the Saigon Post Office we see today.

The Saigon Central Post Office stands today as one of the city's most renowned architectural wonders. The structure boasts a balanced architecture amidst other landmarks such as Notre Dame Cathedral and the aesthetically pleasing city theater. Every detail and symmetrical balance is divided into two sides through a central 'axis'.

The building's architecture is a blend of European and Asian architectural styles. Above the main gate hangs a giant clock displaying the construction years '1886 - 1891' below.

The post office still retains antique mailboxes, telephone booths, and various souvenirs such as stamps or old letters. Amidst the bustling heart of Saigon, a remarkable architectural structure combining European and Asian influences stands out, attracting numerous tourists.

Above the international telephone booths near the entrance, you can see two large maps: one depicting the telecommunications system of Cambodia and Vietnam in 1936; the other describing the telecommunications system of Saigon and neighboring areas in 1892. On both left and right sides, there are staircases leading to souvenir shops along the halls. At the end of the central hall hangs a portrait of President Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam's greatest national hero.

At the Saigon Central Post Office, you can purchase postcards featuring iconic landmarks of Ho Chi Minh City such as Ben Thanh Market, Notre Dame Cathedral,... from the gift shop and send them to friends and family using the postal service. With 38 service counters here, you won't have to wait long.
