Ben Thanh Market and the square in front of the market (District 1, Saigon) are in line for a makeover with an anticipated budget of nearly 300 billion VND.
Saigon is on the verge of building a square in front of Ben Thanh Market with a budget of 157 billion VND
Deputy Chairman of District 1 People's Committee, Mr. Vu Nguyen Quang Vinh, provides information about the plan to renovate and enhance the area in and around Ben Thanh Market. The square in front of Ben Thanh Market, covering a total area of over 45,800 square meters, includes the ground area of the square and surrounding roads, sidewalks, and structures connected to the square. District 1 will use natural granite for the ground, arrange green trees, grass carpets, lighting systems, and public facilities. Additionally, statues of Tran Nguyen Han and Quach Thi Trang will be restored. The renovation area spans over 45,000 square meters and is divided into two phases.

Phase 1 involves the creation of a square in front of Ben Thanh Market, featuring a layout of green spaces at the traffic island and a green strip along the center. Statues of Tran Nguyen Han and Quach Thi Trang will be relocated to their original positions; the layout of the square area will cater to various needs. In terms of traffic, part of the route from Tran Hung Dao Street to Le Loi Street will be retained to meet connectivity needs to the city center.
Phase 2 will complete the planned development, seamlessly connecting the square in front of Ben Thanh Market with other projects such as 23/9 Park and Le Loi Street.
The entire project is expected to be completed by April 30, 2025, with a total estimated budget of 157 billion VND from the budget source.
