Samsung and LG Innovate in Super-Efficient OLED Panels

Currently, high-index CPL is widely used to reduce power consumption and improve light direction. Adding a low-index CPL alongside a high-index variant will enhance optical performance and potentially extend product lifespan.

However, integrating an additional layer may pose challenges in terms of production and cost. To implement the new CPL, manufacturers need to convince companies like Samsung Electronics of its benefits.

Several companies, including Dongjin SEMICHEM, Hodogaya, LAPT, and PNH Tech, are researching low-index CPL technology and have begun delivering samples and preliminary stages to display manufacturers. The final choice for suppliers will consider factors such as quality, cost, and existing relationships.

As per Sammobile, Samsung and LG have previously showcased their innovation in OLED technology. Samsung introduced the Eco2 OLED panel last year, impressing with its energy-saving capabilities. This display panel was later incorporated into the Galaxy Z Flip4 and Galaxy Z Fold4. However, some Samsung users have reported recent issues with pink, green, and white lines appearing on their screens.

Therefore, the expectation is that Samsung and LG will succeed in developing new displays for integration into upcoming smartphones.
