Introducing Samsung Display's latest innovation: the Flex In & Out OLED panel, capable of folding both inward and outward. With its 360-degree folding capability, it eliminates the need for a separate hinge, similar to the Galaxy Z Flip5. Without the need for an external screen, the device theoretically can be thinner, have a larger battery, or perform better.
Samsung's new foldable display could mark a new era for the Galaxy Z Flip lineup. However, the foldable nature of the display also means it's exposed and susceptible to damage if dropped. To address this, Samsung Display has reinforced the panel and showcased various durability tests, including extreme temperature tests (-20°C to 60°C), basketball dribbling, water submersion, and sand abrasion tests.
A representative from Samsung Display stated: “The In & Out Flip technology offers a fresh alternative for consumers who favor clamshell-style smartphones due to the device's foldable form factor. When folded outward, both the front and back of the device can serve as screens, providing a new experience for users.”
Samsung's screen technology leaves a lasting impression. The South Korean company also exhibited various other OLED displays, including the Rollable Flex and Flex Hybrid. The Rollable Flex is an OLED panel that can be rolled back to one-quarter of its original size. The Flex Hybrid is an OLED panel that can fold and slide simultaneously.
