Travelers have the chance to explore one of the world's most mysterious countries, but they must dress modestly and refrain from consuming alcohol or beer.
Saudi Arabia's First Opening to Tourists
From September 28th, Saudi Arabia begins issuing visas for tourists. This marks the first time the Islamic country has opened its doors to foreign visitors for sightseeing. Previously, Saudi Arabia only granted permits to visitors for business purposes, Muslim pilgrims visiting the holy sites of Mecca and Medina, and resident workers.

This new policy applies to 49 countries and territories. Tourists can apply for multiple-entry visas, allowing stays of up to 90 days. The visa fee is approximately $117, including medical insurance. However, foreign tourists are still not allowed to visit sacred Islamic sites such as Mecca or Medina.
Authorities require tourists to dress modestly, avoid clothing with slogans or images deemed offensive. Men are not allowed to wear shorts or tank tops. Women are not required to have male guardians or wear an aba (traditional long black cloak) as before, but they must dress modestly. Alcoholic beverages remain banned for sale, and tourists carrying alcohol or drugs are considered to be breaking the law.
