With just a few clever tricks, you can secure your personal information on Facebook from strangers. Especially, there's no need to spend time searching and deleting old posts. Follow the steps below!
Safe Searching on Facebook
Step 1: Log in to your personal Facebook account, then click on the settings icon, the gear-shaped icon in the top right corner of the Facebook interface. Click on the Privacy Settings option.
Step 2: When the Privacy and Tools Settings window appears, in the Who can see my stuff? section, click on the Edit button to choose the audience as Friends in the Who can see your future posts? section.
Step 3: Click on Limit Past Posts to change the sharing status for your past posts.
Immediately, Facebook issues a warning; content on your timeline shared with your friends or Public will change to Friends. However, people tagged and their friends can still see those posts. You can also customize the audience for each post individually.
Step 4: Click on Limit Old Posts, a Facebook confirmation dialog appears. Click Confirm to agree to change the sharing status of all posts on your timeline to Friends.
After clicking the Confirm button, all posts on your timeline automatically switch to the audience as Friends. For sensitive posts or information you don't want to keep on your timeline, you can delete them by selecting as shown below:
From now on, whenever you post a new status, Facebook will default the audience to Friends. However, for posts or statuses that you want only yourself to see, you can choose as shown below:
