In essence, LockNote is a text editor program with the capability to secure data with a password. Use LockNote to create password-protected notes and keep your information safe.
If using a different text editor to create a text file, and you want to secure that file with a password, all you need to do is copy the text within the file (not the text file itself) you want to protect and paste it into the LockNote interface. Then, save the file. LockNote saves files as executable files, not regular text files. During the file-saving process, LockNote allows you to add a password to protect the note.
To open the note, simply open the executable file by double-clicking on it. The executable file will be opened with the LockNote program.
Here is how to use LockNote to set a password for protecting a text file on Windows:
Step 1: Download LockNote to your computer and install it.

Next, unzip the downloaded Zip file to get the LockNote folder. Then, open the LockNote folder you just extracted to find the LockNote executable file.

In this method, compress the file using 7-Zip with the text content, then create a password for the Zip file. To access the text file inside the protected Zip file, you will need to enter the password. Here's how to do it:
Step 1: Download and install 7-Zip on your machine.

In the Archive format section, select Zip. In the Encryption section, choose the default ZipCrypto or opt for the widely used AES-256 encryption.
Finally, enter the password you want to use to secure the text file, then re-enter the password to confirm, and click OK to create a Zip file containing your text file.
From now on, whenever you open the Zip file using the built-in decompression tool on Windows 10 or other tools, you will be prompted to enter the password to unzip the file.

WinRAR offers similar features to 7-Zip, so you can use either of these file compression and decompression tools to set a password for text files on Windows 10.
