The small temple dedicated to Yue Lao in Taiwan is believed to have been instrumental in bringing together thousands of couples for marital destiny each year.
Seeking Divine Intervention at the Most Sacred Yue Lao Temple in Taiwan
In Taiwan, China, numerous solo travelers visit Hahai Temple in Taipei to seek divine intervention, hoping to meet their life partner. Locals often frequent the Yue Lao temple, the god of love who holds the book of arranged marriages for couples according to Chinese mythology.
The most sacred temple for seeking love destiny
The legend of Yue Lao has been passed down since the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). Chinese people believe that Yue Lao (also known as Moon Under the Moon) is the god who governs love, overseeing the marriages of all people. Yue Lao binds couples with a red thread, believed to be the thread of fate.

Professor Isaac Yue from Hong Kong University reveals that people started believing in the Love Deity, also known as Yue Lao, during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1922). Today, individuals continue to pray before the statues of Mr. and Mrs. Moon in many Asian countries. Besides the massive Yue Lao statues in Taiwan, the one in the temple in Hahai City is famous for its sacredness, attracting many locals and international tourists.
Hahai Temple is located about 40 minutes' drive from the center of Taipei, the capital of Taiwan. It is one of the oldest temples in the city, constructed in 1859.
Tour guide Naomi Lee, who regularly brings visitors to the temple, shares: “Every day, an estimated 500 solo travelers, heartbroken individuals, visit this temple. On Valentine's Day or Lunar New Year, this number increases to 1,000 visitors per day. We don't promise that coming here to pray will make you successful. For those who genuinely believe, their wishes are sure to come true.”

Vietnamese tourist Tran Hong Giang, 40 years old, married for 8 years, shares: “I met my husband exactly one year after coming to Hahai Temple to seek divine intervention. Now I return to give thanks and express gratitude to Yue Lao for helping us become a happily married couple.”
What is the worship and seeking divine intervention process like?
The prayer process at Hahai Temple typically lasts about 30 minutes with 12 specific steps guided in the temple. Seekers purchase a ritual set for approximately 9 USD, light candles, pray to the deities in a specific order, and then partake in wedding cakes left by happily married couples.
When seeking divine intervention from Yue Lao for destiny, tourists and locals are advised to pray with intricate details. Similar to local rituals, individuals should state their name, age, and address, followed by specifying their wishes for their future 'better half,' including personality traits, the name of the person they admire, and more.

The offerings for seeking divine intervention at Hahai Temple include a red charm bracelet from Yue Lao. After the prayer, people hold onto this charm bracelet either on their person or in their wallets until their wishes come true.
The sacredness of the small temple in Hahai City attracts numerous tourists to travel to Taiwan for both sightseeing and prayer. Especially, singles don't necessarily have to attend the worship ceremony in person. Many elderly individuals, anxious for their children, visit to seek divine intervention and receive satisfying results.
“In 2014, there were 5,000 couples who found each other and came to express gratitude and thank Yue Lao at this temple,” shared tour guide Bob Chen.
