Currently, the AOE Vietnam community thrives in various modes: solo, where two gamers face off, and 4v4 matches, meaning a team of four gamers participates. Maps selected for these modes are usually Large and Gigantic. Additionally, 2v2 matches are common, with 3v3 matches being the least played.

(8): Make sure to choose Random Map
In which:
- Large: This is the map commonly used in solo or 2v2 modes
- Huge: This map is commonly used for games with each side having 3 players (Sometimes 2v2 matches with Random Civs also select the Huge map)
Gigantic: This map is designed for 4v4 matches: Each side has 4 units, and the map needs to be spacious enough to allow for development.
(10): Victory Condition Section: Includes 4 modes: Standard, Conquest, Time limit, Score
- This is also one of the crucial sections in setting up the map in Empire, Conquest mode being the most frequently chosen mode in every game. When Conquest mode is selected, players can only win when the opponent surrenders or all enemy units and structures are destroyed.
(11): Map Types: AOE features various map types including: Small Islands, Large Islands, Coastal, Highland, Continental, Mediterranean, Hill Country, Narrows.
- Here, the Hill Country map along with Large Islands are frequently set up in every AOE match. The Hill Country map is familiar to the AOE Vietnam community as well as worldwide.
(12): Starting Ages: The setting for game epochs includes: Default, Nomad, Stone Age, Tool Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age.
- In this section, the selected setting is Default mode: Players will sequentially progress through tasks starting from the Stone Age era up to the Iron Age era.
(13): Default Resources: includes Medium and High modes
(14): Difficulty Level: Choosing the difficulty level for players here is the computer (Computer) in each match, including modes: Easiest, Easy, Moderate, Hard, Hardest
- Typically, when playing against the computer, players often select Hard or Hardest mode depending on the number of Computers chosen. This mode does not affect the game match between players as well as the overall map setup process in the Empire.
(15): Path Finding: Includes modes Default, Medium, High
(16): Population Limit: Choose the total number of military and civilian units generated in each match including parameters: 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200
- In each match, players often set the parameter to 200 military and civilian units
(17): Enable Cheating: If this mode is selected, players can fully use Empire game commands (commonly referred to as cheats in the Empire). Typically, only when playing against the computer, players use Empire game commands to compete, while playing online with friends if cheats are used, you will be considered cheating.
(18): Fixed Positions: This is a mode to pay attention to during setup. When setting up, you need to choose this mode because then the system will arrange and dominate the geographic positions of allied units as well as homes for each player. Many matches are halted and need to be reset when players do not select this mode
(19): Full Tech Tree: If you choose this mode, your resources will not need to be gathered yet will still be available, quite the advantage
(20): Reveal Map: Bright map mode: With this option, you will battle on a bright map, no need to explore like in the dark map
(21): After setting up, select OK to save the settings
(22): If there are no settings, select Cancel to exit the setup mode
Choosing and deploying troops is crucial in every Empire battle. Properly setting up the map ensures smooth gameplay without interruptions or cancellations. Opting for random troop selection may suffice, but selecting specific troops requires careful consideration.
Aside from troop selection, understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each type of unit will facilitate easier gameplay.
