Sending Packages and Receiving Payments via Postal Service, a guide on sending packages through Vietnam Post (VNPost)
Sending Packages via Postal Service
1. Is it advisable to send packages via postal service?
Vietnam Post Corporation (VNPost) is a state-owned company under the Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam. With an extensive network of post offices covering all 63 provinces and cities, a tightly controlled transportation process, sending packages through Vietnam's postal system comes with several advantages:
- Low shipping and cash-on-delivery fees: Under the state's protection, VNPost's transportation and cash-on-delivery fees are considered significantly lower compared to competitors such as ViettelPost, Giao hàng nhanh, Giao hàng tiết kiệm,...
- High Reputation: With a professional working process, thorough inspection of goods from packaging to sorting, and delivery, you can feel confident when sending items via Vietnam's postal service. Especially for high-value items, to prevent loss or theft, it's best to use postal services.
- Better for Inter-provincial Shipping: As mentioned earlier, Vietnam's postal service has an extensive network of post offices nationwide. Even for orders in provinces, remote districts, islands, and remote areas, you can still send items through the postal service.
2. Methods of Sending Packages via Postal Service
Currently, in the field of parcel delivery, Vietnam's postal service provides three popular transportation methods. Specifically, as follows:
- Express Delivery: Goods will be transported swiftly to the recipient within a timeframe of 1-2 days.
- Fast Delivery: Items will be swiftly transported by air, with a delivery time ranging from 1-3 days depending on the region.
- Standard Delivery: This is a service for transporting goods from the sender to the recipient domestically and internationally. Typically, the delivery time extends from 7-9 days depending on the region.
In addition to the mentioned delivery services, Vietnam's postal service also provides the option of 'Send and Collect on Delivery (Ship Code)'. With this method of sending items via postal service with cash-on-delivery, in addition to paying the shipping fee, you will also need to pay a collection fee to the postal service and collect the cash at the postal transaction counter after the shipment has been successfully delivered.
3. How much does it cost to send 1kg through postal service?
Similar to other carriers, VNPost calculates shipping fees based on the weight and dimensions of the sent goods. Express delivery typically incurs higher fees compared to standard shipping. For items with larger dimensions, VNPost converts the size to weight and adds it to the shipping fee.

4. How to send items via postal service
4.1. Prepare the Items
- Prepare your goods, packaging boxes, and foam for wrapping fragile items that are susceptible to water damage or breakage, such as glass, plastic, etc. Then, proceed to pack the items in the usual way. Note: For fragile items, use tape to seal the mouth of bottles/jars tightly, use foam to wrap the items with 2-3 layers around, insert foam for stability, and only then place them in the packaging box.
- Provide detailed information of the sender, recipient, type of goods, and the amount to be collected (if any) on a white sheet of paper, affix it on the outside of the packaging box.
Note: Choose a rectangular piece of paper, of moderate size, write the information in the corners on the left and right margins, leaving a blank space in the central area for the postal service to stamp and write the tracking code.
Similar to other carriers, VNPost also has regulations on the types of goods legally accepted for shipping. To learn more about these regulations, please refer to the back of the shipping form or call VNPost hotline (1900545481) for detailed information.
