On the first day of Tet holiday (January 29th, the 27th day of the 12th lunar month), Northern Vietnam experiences intense cold, with highland areas dropping below 5°C and the possibility of frost, snow, and sleet.
1. Severe cold hits Northern Vietnam on the first day of Tet holiday
During the night of January 28th, this cold air mass will affect some areas in the Northern mountainous region, extending to other areas in the North and Central North by January 29th, and then to some places in the Central region.
Moreover, from January 28th to 29th, there will be thunderstorms in Northern Vietnam and Thanh Hoa. From January 29th onwards, the area from Nghe An to Thua Thien Hue will experience rain, showers, and thunderstorms. During thunderstorms, there is a high chance of hail, lightning, hailstorms, and strong winds.
Furthermore, from the night of January 29th, Northern and Central Northern regions will experience severe cold. Temperatures in the Northern region typically range from 10-13°C, 7-10°C in highland areas, with some highland areas dropping below 5°C, possibly leading to frost and snow. In the Central Northern region, temperatures range from 11-14°C.
The continuous influence of cold air will lead to severe cold weather in Northern and Central Northern Vietnam from January 31st to February 3rd, with widespread frost, snow, and sleet expected in highland areas.

In Northeast Vietnam, morning and night drizzle and scattered fog, with plains experiencing decreasing clouds and partial sunshine in the afternoon. Expect light winds, cold mornings and nights, with temperatures ranging from 18-21 degrees Celsius in the morning and at night. Mountainous areas may experience temperatures below 17 degrees Celsius. Highest temperatures will be 22-25 degrees Celsius, with some areas exceeding 25 degrees Celsius.
From Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue, expect scattered rain in some places in the North, early morning fog and scattered light fog, decreasing clouds with sunshine in the afternoon; in the South, sunny during the day and rain in some places at night. Expect light winds, cold mornings and nights, with temperatures ranging from 19-22 degrees Celsius. Highest temperatures in the North will be 24-27 degrees Celsius, and in the South 26-29 degrees Celsius.
