Part 2: Sample essay on portraying my family on a Saturday afternoon
My Composition:
Family is the greatest treasure one can have in life. It's where we all want to return quickly to be with our loved ones wherever we go. I am no exception. Every Saturday afternoon, when the whole family gathers around the delicious meal my mother prepares, chatting over drinks, I feel incredibly happy.
My family is like any other typical family. My father serves in the military at a unit in the province. However, he only comes home on weekends due to his duties, leaving little time for family. My mother works as a factory worker at a nearby garment factory. Although her job allows her more time with us siblings compared to my father, I eagerly anticipate every Saturday afternoon when my mother returns home earlier than usual. It's during these afternoons that I sit and wonder what delicious dish my mother will cook for the family. This brings me immense joy, especially when I get to pick up my five-year-old brother from kindergarten and bring him home. In moments like these, I feel grown-up and mature for being able to help my parents.
Today, my mother returned home early and went to the evening market to buy food for the family. During that afternoon, my father cleaned up the garden and our house, making it much cleaner and brighter than usual. My mother treated us to a delicious salad with pig ears and banana flowers, along with my favorite nem chả. I also picked up my little brother from kindergarten, so I'll help my mother with picking vegetables.
While my father relaxed in the garden, tending to the plants and removing weeds, my mother was busy in the kitchen. The aroma of each dish she cooked made me incredibly hungry. I couldn't wait to taste her delicious creations.
At exactly six o'clock in the evening, after everyone had finished bathing, my mother brought out the prepared dinner. My siblings and I eagerly gathered around the dining table, vying for our seats. My mother laughed and asked me to invite my father to join us for dinner. We all sat together as a family, enjoying the warm, fragrant meal. My father shared stories from his military camp, recounting his experiences training new recruits. He even shared anecdotes about a new soldier under his command who was both clumsy and amusing, leaving my siblings and me laughing heartily. He also mentioned how busy his duties at the military camp were, which made it difficult for him to visit us often. He advised us to be obedient, listen to our mother, and always help her with household chores.
As for my mother, she sits watching my father and siblings eat, smiling brightly. She says she loves watching us enjoy the delicious meals she cooks. Her job is always demanding, enduring a lot of pressure. Yet she always strives to give my sisters and me the best. My father even serves her food, reminding her to eat well because of her hard work.
Meanwhile, my younger brother and I compete eagerly to finish all the dishes our mother cooked. He sits animatedly telling stories from kindergarten. Whether it's about Nam's fall and bleeding leg, needing the teacher's bandaging, or Duong's continued stutter despite the teacher's efforts to correct him, the innocent tales of the little boy make our whole family burst into laughter due to his adorable innocence.
After finishing the meal, my brother and I help my mother clear the table. My father arranges the table and chairs, then goes to the living room to drink tea and watch the news. Once done, my parents and I gather around my father, listening to his cheerful stories.
Last Saturday afternoon passed by swiftly. Monday has arrived, and my father returns to duty while my mother and my sisters start their new week of work. However, every Saturday afternoon, I always look forward to my family happily gathering like this. I hope my family will always be as cheerful and happy as now, and we will have many more meaningful Saturday afternoons like this one.
