Windows 11 has brought a new update with a completely revamped interface, new multitasking features, as well as performance improvements for better gaming experience. But is that all this update has to offer?
After 3 days of exploration, I'll highlight what satisfies me and areas for improvement. And if you're wondering whether to switch to Windows 11 now, read through this article!
1. Advantages of Windows 11
Brand New Interface
Windows 11 introduces a sleeker, more colorful interface that is easier to navigate and retains enough familiarity for Windows 10 users to transition smoothly.
The most notable change is the new taskbar centered interface, which is much sleeker and impressive.
But what truly makes Windows 11 exciting are the stunning new themes. This upgrade comes with six pre-installed themes, offering you a range of color options, wallpapers, and light and dark modes to personalize your PC.
Additionally, File Explorer has undergone a complete interface overhaul to be simpler, with fewer buttons and less redundant features.
Improved Multitasking Capability
This is the change that I find most impressive and satisfying when using Windows 11. This upgrade introduces the Snap Layouts feature, allowing users to customize layouts when multitasking.
However, one notable drawback is that the feature is currently only easily accessible for default Windows apps, while third-party software is not. It's possible that the developers will quickly address this issue in the shortest time possible to provide the most comprehensive experience for users.
Easier Virtual Desktop Experience
Virtual desktops existed on Windows 10, but the feature was not prominent and not really good. Creating and switching between multiple virtual desktops on Windows 11 is very flexible, and you can also set different wallpapers and names for each virtual desktop to easily distinguish them when using.
Gaming Support Features
Windows 11 introduces new gaming features designed to make PC gaming look and perform better. Similar to the new Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, Windows 11 now supports Auto HDR, making games stand out with enhanced brightness and colors.
Microsoft also promises that your games will load faster with DirectStorage, a technology designed to allow the system's graphics card and processor to work more efficiently.
Small Details Make a Big Difference
Despite Windows 11's completely new interface and some important new features, some smaller highlights have really impressed me. For example: now you'll see a small icon at the bottom of the screen when your microphone is in use, this is a handy privacy indicator that brings Windows on par with Apple's software.
Additionally, Windows 11 will bring you faster software update times when you select 'Update and shut down' or 'Update and restart'. We won't have to sit around waiting for updates on Windows anymore.
2. Things I Dislike about Windows 11
Widgets
Windows 11 introduces a new Widgets app, essentially an upgraded version of Windows 10's news feed, allowing you to quickly view things like weather, sports scores, news articles, and stocks. However, it feels a bit clunky and inflexible in its current state.
You can move these widgets around and adjust their size and content, but there are only 11 widgets to choose from and size options are also limited.
Limitations in Installing Android Apps
Windows 11 can run Android apps without the need for emulation software anymore. I've also tried it out by downloading TikTok to use. However, when downloading this app to the device, it's still the web interface rather than the smartphone interface.
3. Should You Upgrade to Windows 11 Right Now?
Up until now, I've really enjoyed using Windows 11, but I wouldn't call it a totally necessary upgrade - at least not for everyone.
The visual refresh is truly great and basic tasks like turning off notifications and quickly adjusting settings are easier thanks to some smart interface tweaks. But using Windows 10, I still feel there isn't a huge difference.
Right now, you should upgrade for one of two reasons: You're a frequent multitasker or simply because you want a prettier Windows.
It's worth noting that like any new software update, Windows 11 may have some issues and bugs upon launch, with hopes of improvement over time with new features, including Android app support.
So, upgrade now if you want more powerful multitasking tools and some really beautiful new wallpapers - if not, wait for Windows 11 to be more polished after some time!
