Different from sweet sticky rice made with purely plant-based ingredients like black beans, peanuts, lotus seeds,... Savory sticky rice involves combining white sticky rice with protein-rich and fatty ingredients such as chicken, eggs, and pork.
1. Ingredients:
- Thai glutinous rice: 400g
- Chinese sausage: 2 pieces
- Chicken eggs: 3 eggs
- Dried shrimp: 20g
- Pork sausage: 100g
- Green onions
- Chili peppers
- Common seasonings: cooking oil, soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, salt.

2. How to cook mixed savory sticky rice using an electric rice cooker
Step 1: Prepare glutinous rice and cook sticky rice.
Prepare glutinous rice.
- Soak glutinous rice in water overnight for it to expand, then drain it with clean water. (If there's no overnight soaking time, soak the rice in hot water for about 2 hours).
Cook sticky rice.
- Place glutinous rice in the electric rice cooker, add a pinch of salt, pour water, and start cooking. (Note: The water level should be just above the rice surface).
- When the rice cooker switches to the warming mode, leave it for an additional 15 minutes, then turn the cooking mode back on to ensure the rice is tender.

Step 2: Process Chinese sausage
- Clean the Chinese sausage, place it in a pot, add 50ml of filtered water, and simmer on the stove.
- When the water is about to dry, reduce the heat and continue simmering until the water is completely gone. Roll the Chinese sausage evenly using chopsticks, allowing it to release its fat.
- Once the Chinese sausage has a brownish-red color, remove it, let it cool, and slice it into strands or thin slices according to your preference.
Step 3: Process other ingredients to eat with mixed sticky rice.
- Cut the pork sausage into strands.
- Thinly slice and shred the chicken eggs.
- Soak the dried shrimp until plump, finely chop the remaining green onions for fragrance, then quickly stir-fry the dried shrimp.
- Finely chop the remaining green onions, put them in a bowl (cup), heat the oil, and pour it into the bowl of green onions to make onion-infused oil.
- Finely chop the chili peppers and place them in a jar, then prepare a sweet and sour vinegar and sugar solution to pour into the chili pepper jar. Adjust the vinegar-to-chili ratio to your liking.
