Brown pandas are among the rarest mob variants you can encounter in Minecraft. Not every player gets the chance to spot them while traversing different terrains. If you're seeking ways to raise brown pandas in Minecraft, check out the guide below.
Brown Pandas - The Rarest Specimen in the Minecraft Game
1. How to Locate Pandas in Minecraft
To raise pandas, you need to first locate a few of them. Brown pandas typically appear in groups of 1 to 2 within the dense forest biome, where the grass surface has at least two empty blocks above with a light level of 9 or higher. Pandas have a higher egg-laying rate in Bamboo Forests (80/160 egg-laying chances) and Bamboo Hills (80/130).
Hence, the best chance for players to pinpoint the location of pandas is to find the Bamboo Forest biome. They often breed alongside the Taiga or near the extreme hills biomes. However, this can be time-consuming, and players can use bamboo saplings to generate Bamboo Forests instead.

2. How to Breed Pandas in Minecraft
Pandas are the only animals in Minecraft capable of reproduction. Players need to place at least 8 bamboo blocks within a 5-block radius of both pandas to trigger their affection. Then, feed them bamboo to produce panda offspring. Upon successful breeding, 1-7 experience points will drop. Without enough bamboo blocks nearby, pandas will only sit and eat bamboo without reproducing. Moreover, if players place two pandas too close to each other, they may become hostile.
3. How to Obtain Brown Pandas in Minecraft?
Pandas breed with random personalities, with the normal variant being the most common and the brown variant being the rarest. Panda cubs inherit one gene from both parents, then they will randomly mix both received genes as the dominant and corresponding hidden genes. There's also a 1⁄32 chance for each of its genes to mutate into a different gene.
With the Brown Panda being the rarest, players need to rely on random mutations to obtain them. The more pandas you raise, the better your chances, and using bamboo as a resource and mass breeding is the quickest way to get brown pandas in Minecraft.
