2. Making bean sprouts using fresh milk cartons
Similar to the method of making bean sprouts with plastic bottles, making bean sprouts with milk cartons is a simple, economical, environmentally friendly way, and we get delicious fresh bean sprouts to enjoy.
Ingredients needed for making bean sprouts with fresh milk cartons
- Green beans: 1 ounce;
- Fresh milk carton lid: 1 lid (using the lid from a 1-liter carton is sufficient for 1 ounce of beans).
Steps to carry out making bean sprouts using fresh milk cartons
Step 1: Clean the beans thoroughly, remove any impurities, and soak them in warm water at around 30-40 degrees Celsius. Let them soak overnight to allow the beans to sprout.
Step 2: Tilt the milk carton on its side, then cut two corners at the top of the carton. Rinse it thoroughly with water, and use scissors to poke small holes at the bottom and along the body of the carton for ventilation.
Step 3: After soaking the beans, rinse them with clean water and pour them into the carton. Stand the carton upright in a basket or tray, water it twice a day by pouring water over the cut to allow excess water to drain out through the small holes at the bottom. Then, fold the carton clip back.
Place the carton in a dark place for the beans to grow thick with few roots. Alternatively, you can follow another method: Pour the beans into the carton, soak the bean-filled carton in water for about 10 minutes every day, then drain the water twice. With homemade bean sprout methods like these, you don't need to worry about hygiene or the presence of chemicals in the bean sprouts anymore.
