Excel is a widely used spreadsheet program developed by Microsoft. It can be used for various purposes, from managing simple lists to analyzing complex data and personal or business financial management. However, sometimes Excel freezes, lags, or runs slowly on your computer, which can be frustrating, isn't it? So here, I'll share with you how to fix Excel running slow on Windows.
1. Reduce Excel file size
After finishing work with Excel, you'll need to save the file, right? When saving, select the option next to Save as type, check Excel Binary Workbook (*.xslb) > Save. Doing so will reduce the file size, making Excel launch faster.

2. Enable manual calculation
When rearranging cells in Excel, the application recalculates formulas and functions, consuming a lot of computer resources, causing Excel to run much slower. Go to Formulas > Calculation Options, then select Manual. Now you can press F9 if you want Excel to recalculate.

3. Optimize Excel compatibility
Optimizing the interface, images, etc., in Excel will make this application run faster and smoother on your computer. Open Excel > Select File > Options > General, then select Optimize for compatibility under User Interface Options > Press OK to finish.

4. Turn off hardware graphics acceleration
Hardware graphics acceleration allows applications to use GPU and improve performance. However, sometimes this feature causes the computer to heat up quickly and lag. So, turn it off by selecting File > Options > Advanced > Go to Display > Check Disable hardware graphics acceleration > Press OK.

So here's how I've guided you through fixing Excel slow performance on Windows. Thanks to everyone who took a moment to read my article. If you found it helpful, give me a like and share to support my future posts.
