Microsoft has begun deploying new Skype updates for Insider Program users last week. Today, the company unveiled the newly added features in the app update. It seems like the new update primarily focuses on enhancing the calling experience.
Apart from enabling users to mute audio in 1:1 calls (added in the previous update), in the new Skype update, Microsoft further enhances the experience by adding the Speaker View mode for group calls. This mode allows participants to view and focus on a speaker at any given time.
When Speaker View mode is activated, instead of seeing a grid displaying all participants in the conversation, the current speaker will be displayed prominently on the screen, while other participants will be shown in smaller windows in the top right corner. This new feature is now available in Skype version 8.42.76.54 for all platforms.
Additionally, users making group calls on their computers will notice some new options displayed on the screen. At this point, users can adjust camera and mic settings before joining a call, and they can activate the new background blur feature to obscure their surroundings, check out how to make Skype group calls here.
Lastly, for users using Skype for Windows 10 downloaded and installed from the Microsoft Store, they can use shortcuts to perform specific tasks for calls without needing to open the Skype window. These Skype shortcuts include Ctrl + E to decline incoming calls or end ongoing calls, Ctrl + M to mute and unmute during calls. Currently, there are no shortcuts to answer calls, Microsoft says they will soon add these shortcuts.
