Here are some essential Skype tricks you should know.
1. Set up your caller ID for calls from your Skype account.
If you're making a call from your Skype account to a phone number and you don't want an unfamiliar number to appear on the recipient's device (mobile or landline), you can set up a fixed ID for your Skype account so your friends know it's you when you call.
To do this, go to Skype -> Account. If you're not already logged in, log in to your Skype account. Then select Caller ID. Next, choose your country, enter your phone number, and click Verify number to save.
2. Activate shortcut keys.
Like other apps, Skype offers a list of shortcut keys for faster navigation while using the platform. By default, these shortcuts are inactive. To use them, you need to activate them.
Navigate to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Hotkeys and check the box next to Enable shortcut keys then click Save.
3. Disable animated emojis.
To stop animated emojis in chat, go to Tools -> Options -> Quick SMS & IM -> IM appearance and uncheck the box next to Show animated emoticons then click Save.
4. Set up keywords for notifications.

To do this, go to Conversation -> Notification settings then select the checkbox Notify me only if the following words are mentioned. Enter the keywords into the blank text box below and click OK.

Skype also allows you to delete chat history and specify the time period to store chat content. To delete all chat history on Skype, go to Tools -> Options -> Quick SMS & IM -> Show advanced options. You can select the time period you want to delete and click Delete history.
6. Disable the moving pencil icon.
During text messaging on Skype, a small pencil icon appears when the other person is typing. To turn it off, go to Tools -> Options -> Quick SMS & IM -> Set up IMs -> Show advanced options and check the box next to Show when I'm typing.

To enable this, go to Tools -> Options -> General -> General settings and check the option Start a call when I double-click on a contact then click Save.

Sometimes due to typing too fast, you may send a message with errors or missing characters that you want to correct. After sending a message, quickly press the up arrow key, the message will appear in the chat box, allowing you to edit and resend it.
9. Backup and move your Skype contacts.

It's important to back up your Skype contacts to avoid any risks with your Skype account. To back up your contacts, go to Contacts -> Advanced -> Backup contacts to file. When you need to restore them, select Restore contacts from file.
