With the latest update, users can now add music to their Snaps both before and after they start recording. The company has reached agreements with partners including Warner Music Group and Universal Music Publishing Group to access their music catalogs.

According to a Snap spokesperson, the new feature has been tested in Australia and New Zealand and will be launched globally in the fall. Although the feature still differs significantly from many key TikTok features like lip-syncing or video remixing, the music feature can still help Snapchat compete with its rivals. Music has proven to be a popular feature on Instagram, and deals with music companies will lay the groundwork for any future music-supporting features.
A Snapchat representative stated: 'We will continue to build relationships in the music industry and ensure that the entire music ecosystem (artists, companies, composers, publishers, and streaming services) sees value in partnering with us.'
The update comes as the future of TikTok in the US remains uncertain. Microsoft has confirmed they are still in negotiation stages but details have yet to be disclosed. Facebook has also been heavily promoting its music feature with official music videos on the News Feed.
