Snapchat is heavily promoting its new Spotlight feature, offering a daily cash prize of $1 million to the best content creators. Spotlight is described as a competitor to TikTok, as it allows users to create similar types of content.
With Spotlight, users can create short videos up to 60 seconds long and edit them with tools like captions, music, AR filters, GIFs, hashtags... Snapchat named this feature Spotlight because it's designed to highlight entertaining videos from all users, regardless of their follower count or influence. However, health-related content takes precedence.
In line with its goal of fostering a community of healthy content sharing, the company has set some limits for content to adhere to its principles and terms. Additionally, Spotlight content will be moderated and public comments will not be allowed.
Initially, Spotlight will be rolled out in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and France. Snapchat has mentioned that other countries will be added soon, but they haven't specified when or which countries will be supported.
Snapchat users can mark their favorite Spotlight content or send it to friends and family. According to Snap's payment terms, all users who like content contribute to the final amount received by the content creator, so remember to like the content you enjoy.
If you live in any of the listed countries, simply update Snapchat and select Spotlight on the bottom-right of the navigation bar to try out this new feature. Note that only users aged 16 and above are eligible to earn money from Spotlight content.
