Designers creating augmented reality lenses on Snapchat will soon have a powerful tool to aid their work, thanks to the LiDAR Scanner on iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max as Snap releases the Lens Studio 3.2 update.
The LiDAR scanner measures scene depth by emitting light and calculating the time it takes for it to bounce back from an object to the sensor. This allows Snapchat's camera to understand objects' shapes and surfaces more deeply. Snapchat states that creators can leverage the advantages of iPhone 12 Pro's A14 Bionic chip and Apple's ARKit technology to render thousands of augmented reality objects in real-time.

Lens Studio 3.2 introduces an interactive preview mode, offering insights into how LiDAR lenses operate, even before the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max hit the shelves. Creators can also preview their LiDAR lenses within the Snapchat app if they have the latest iPad Pro.
