Review of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1: Configuration, Pricing
1. Specifications, Configuration of Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1
Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 can be considered an improved version of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Qualcomm has addressed two significant drawbacks of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which are excessive power consumption and limited performance.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 struggles to maintain peak performance under certain workloads. Passive cooling systems employed by various manufacturers also fail to address this issue, resulting in lower performance compared to Qualcomm's previous generation processors.
The CPU architecture of Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is similar to Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, but with the Cortex-X2 ARM CPU core reduced to 3.2 GHz, three Cortex-A710 CPU cores clocked at 2.75 GHz, and four Cortex-A510 CPU cores clocked at 2GHz. Qualcomm has opted for TSMC's energy-efficient 4NM manufacturing process instead of Samsung's 4NM node for Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. This new chip promises to deliver 10% higher CPU performance and 30% higher energy efficiency compared to the old chip.
The Adreno 730 GPU offers more than 10% higher performance than Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Qualcomm claims the GPU can now provide an additional 30% energy efficiency. Features such as HDR gaming, VRS, and Render Volume technique are also supported. This chip also supports LPDDR5 RAM (3,200 MHz) up to 16GB, UFS 3.1 storage, and biometric authentication (face, fingerprint, and voice).
Those expecting more new features will be disappointed as these are the only changes in Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Other features such as the integrated Snapdragon X65 5G modem, Spectra 680 ISP, and Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 remain the same as Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
The Adreno 730 GPU supports 4K display at 60Hz and QHD+ at 144Hz. This chip also supports camera sensors up to 200MP, HDR 8K video recording at 30fps, and 4K at 120fps. The ISP supports single 108MP cameras, dual 64MP+36MP cameras, or triple 36MP+36MP+36MP cameras with zero lag.
The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset also features the integrated Snapdragon X65 5G modem, supporting SA/NSA networks with MMWave and Sub-6GHz networks with maximum download speeds up to 10Gbps. Dual-frequency GPS, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, LE Audio, APTX Adaptive, NFC, and USB 3.1 Type-C connectivity features are also supported.
The release date of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset is eagerly awaited.
Most Android component manufacturers are lining up to utilize the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset for their flagship phone products. Asus, Motorola, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Samsung, Vivo, and Xiaomi are all expected to launch phones with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip in the second half of 2022.
Here are the details about the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Chip set to be unveiled by Qualcomm. Stay tuned with Mytour for the latest updates on this product in the upcoming period.
