Last week, Microsoft released a preview of the new Windows 10 for Insider users. The preview included a notification stating that the Snipping Tool would soon be phased out, and users are encouraged to transition to the Screen Sketch app as a replacement. The announcement appeared when users accessed the tool on Windows 10 build 17704.
Snipping Tool remains available in the next Windows 10 update.
According to the announcement, 'Snipping Tool, the screen capture tool, will soon be removed in a future update. Users can switch to alternative tools like Screen Sketch.'
However, it seems the software giant is actively seeking feedback from Insider users about the Screen Sketch app before deciding to retire the old Snipping Tool. The company emphasized that the exact release time of the Redstone 5 update is still undetermined, and at least, the Snipping Tool will remain in the Redstone 4 update.
Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, stated that the company is working to enhance the Windows user experience. Users will receive notifications during the Windows 10 update about replacing the old Snipping Tool. Microsoft, however, has no intention of removing Snipping Tool in the next Windows 10 update, and the integration process is ongoing, with user feedback being a decisive factor.
The Sketch Screen app is now available in the Windows 10 Redstone 5 update, offering similar features to the Snipping Tool. It supports stylus pens, allowing users to quickly and efficiently capture screen shots.
