Sapa Stone Church on Christmas night
I once celebrated Christmas in Sapa back in 2015, but nothing extraordinary lingered in my memory. Frankly, I wasn't planning on spending Christmas in Sapa for the second time. However, in 2016, my partner heard about some Snow Festival happening there and insisted on going. Well, if she insists, why not? What surprised me was that this year was entirely different from previous ones. The Christmas atmosphere made me feel like I was in Europe, not Vietnam. Snowflakes falling from the sky, streets covered in white, houses and stalls decorated like scenes from 'The Little Match Girl,' snowmen whimsically crafted and adorned everywhere...
Everything truly took me by surprise and left me in awe. It was indeed a remarkably delightful Christmas experience.
Details about the Snow Festival:
Exceptional activities during the festival

Souvenir stalls adorned in a European style yet featuring the distinctive architecture of the Northwestern region.
Alright, back to the festival! One of the things I absolutely love about the festival is the unique decoration. Similar to other festivals, the Snow Festival has souvenir stalls, but what sets them apart is their design inspired by traditional markets in the Northwestern highlands. They are adorned with a layer of decorative cloak, reminiscent of European fairy tales. You can find traditional highland souvenirs like ethnic handicrafts and some handmade items, along with Western-style Christmas souvenirs.

Traditional ethnic dance performances
Furthermore, cultural art performances of Northwestern ethnic groups are maintained and organized. This creates a fusion of Western and highland cultures, showcasing traditional Dao Red wedding ceremonies, traditional dances of highland ethnic groups, and folk games.
Capturing the essence of traditional cultural beauty

Cultural Exhibition of Northwestern Vietnam Photography
As part of the festival, there's an exhibition showcasing photos of snow and natural landscapes in Sapa. It beautifully portrays the traditional crafts of the highland people, such as pottery, indigenous handicrafts, and other fine arts. Alongside, there's a blend of modern cultural activities like street music and prize-winning games such as archery and giant Jenga, adding an interesting dimension to the festival.
Culinary Cultural Exchange

Buffet feast in a warm and festive atmosphere
The Snow Festival features a buffet combining Western and Northwestern Vietnamese cuisines. Indulge in traditional Sapa dishes like Thang Co, smoked buffalo, rolled sui cake, ethnic black chicken, and Christmas specialties from Western countries.
Last year, there was even Belgian beer available for beer enthusiasts. The indoor event requires a ticket priced at 499k/person, but hurry because there are limited spaces—only about 100 participants. The festival spans two nights on December 23 and 24, allowing you to choose to attend one or both. According to forecasts, Sapa may experience real snow on Christmas, enhancing the excitement of the festival.
The Snow Festival takes place on the nights of December 23 and 24, giving you the option to attend one or both evenings. The forecast suggests actual snowfall in Sapa during Christmas, promising an even more enchanting experience.
Extra treat for those with leisure time in Sapa
Explore other destinations beyond the Snow Festival, such as Tả Van village, Tả Phìn village, Cát Cát village, Cloud Bridge, Ancient Rock Field, and perhaps the most outstanding - Silver Waterfall. During the rising water season, the waterfall becomes exceptionally majestic. If you're celebrating Christmas in Sapa, a visit to Silver Waterfall is a must to witness its grandeur.

Silver Waterfall, both beautiful and magnificently grand
Following that, you can visit Love Waterfall, intertwined with the famous love story of Ô Quy Hồ and the Golden Stream. These two spots are on the same route and require tickets at the Tôn Station. If you've been to Love Waterfall, don't miss out on the Golden Stream.

From the Heaven's Gate viewpoint, you can capture the panoramic beauty of the Northwest mountainous forest at a glance.
After visiting these three spots, it's also the perfect time for sunset. Rush up to the Heaven's Gate to witness the breathtaking sunset. If the weather is clear, it will be an unforgettable experience.
Wishing you a joyful and exciting Christmas with your loved ones and little ones.
