II. Sample Essay on Social Discourse on Food Safety and Hygiene (Standard)
Food is a vital source of life for humans, and every daily meal becomes a crucial part of our health. Therefore, food safety and hygiene are urgent issues today.
As life develops, food hygiene deteriorates. Numerous articles continuously report on facilities processing rotten pork into products like sausages, patties, and hotdogs, which are consumed and sold in street food stalls and alleys. Daily news updates on dirty food causing concerns in society. Pork contains substances that promote rapid fat growth. Fruits contain drugs to create water, maintain freshness, and many fruits can be kept in the fridge for a month without any signs of decay. Vegetables are contaminated with pesticides. Milk, fish sauce contain cancer-causing substances, tofu, bamboo shoots contain preservatives, causing overdoses. Rice noodles, pho, are bleached with tinopal. These and many other issues are occurring daily, densely appearing, and every daily meal is a vital source of essential nutrients but also a health concern for every family.
Dirty food has become a horror for people as it threatens human health, silently infiltrating every corner of our lives. It leaves extremely serious consequences for us. Schools with hundreds of students, production facilities with hundreds of workers suffering from food poisoning requiring emergency treatment in hospitals. A cup of bubble tea, a smoothie can cause students to vomit, leading to hospitalization for stomach lavage. Deteriorating health, numerous deaths from cancer, from food poisoning every year have shown the alarming level of this issue. The issue of dirty food causes psychological panic, anxiety for consumers. In a large market, everywhere you go, you hear invitations like 'fresh fish and meat,' 'clean vegetables,' but who knows what they contain. When authenticity is mixed with fraud, buying anything, eating anything requires careful consideration, worrying about one's health and the health of one's family, unable to be reassured. On the other hand, many consumers with a preference for cheapness flock to low-priced foods, paying little attention to quality. Unsafe food products have the opportunity to 'flourish' due to that mentality. It becomes a competitive rival to clean foods from companies, production facilities doing business ethically with the goal of 'quality is paramount' but with higher costs, causing market disruptions, economic stagnation, and even many legitimate businesses going bankrupt due to the influx of dirty food into the market.
So what are the causes of such terrifying food issues? First and foremost, it must be the consciousness of human beings, those who are short-sighted and willing to sell their conscience for immediate gains, profit from the health and lives of others. Many production businesses focus on quantity rather than quality, causing serious harm. Many people, for profit, are willing to spray stimulants on crops, stimulate the growth of livestock without considering the consequences. Second, the influx of imported foods, especially low-quality Chinese products, attractive and clean on the outside but completely opposite in quality. Third, it stems from consumers themselves, if producers lack conscience, consumers lack sophistication. The mentality of preferring cheapness has deeply penetrated the subconscious of the Vietnamese, allowing dirty food to freely proliferate everywhere because when there is an opportunity for consumption, when there is consumer interest, they are produced, sold, only with demand will there be supply.
