Social discourse on human resilience in the face of adversity
I. Outline of social discourse on human resilience (Standard)
1. Introduction
Introducing the topic for discussion: Life is not a bed of roses but rather a journey filled with hurdles and challenges, hence the significance of human resilience in our lives.
Life is not always a bed of roses as we wish. It's full of challenges, hurdles, and trials that demand us to overcome. However, the path will eventually be adorned with roses leading to success. It's reserved for those who strive in life, those who can conquer difficulties. Therefore, resilience is crucial in our lives.
What is resilience? It's the will to always rise in life, to overcome many difficult challenges. Resilience exists within each of us; the important thing is whether we know how to nurture it or not.
It's easy to recognize resilience in a person. They are individuals with extraordinary spirits to overcome difficulties. They have iron wills, unafraid of challenges, not anxious or discouraged. To achieve success, not everyone has an easy path to walk. That's why resilience is essential in their spirits. Resilience helps them cast aside obstacles, things that make them lose heart, it gives them strength, encourages them to overcome challenges. Moreover, that resilience nurtures individuals with crucial soft skills: humility, courage, perseverance. They always believe in themselves, that they can overcome those hurdles.
Examples of resilience are abundant in society from ancient times to the present day. Like our beloved Uncle Ho once wrote:
'Nothing is impossible
It's only the fear within
To move mountains and fill seas
Determination surely prevails.'
Uncle Ho stands as a towering example of resilience. He endured years of hardship abroad to seek ways to save the nation. He took on various jobs, suffered hunger, cold, endured harsh imprisonment. Yet, above all, he maintained a steel spirit, an unyielding will, an optimistic spirit, trusting in the future, eventually enlightening the nation, paving the way for our nation's independence today. Or the inspiring example of teacher Nguyen Ngoc Ky - a teacher who inspired countless people with his incredibly resilient spirit. Despite having no hands, he learned to write with his feet, and tirelessly strived to become an outstanding educator of the nation. Another globally renowned figure, not only in Vietnam but worldwide, is Nick Vujicic. Born with congenital disabilities, lacking arms and legs, he faced numerous difficulties and hardships since childhood, even enduring mockery from peers. He felt despair, yet he rose above it all. His resilience helped him overcome all those difficulties, and now he can take care of himself, engage in sports, and has traveled to many countries worldwide to inspire others with his willpower and resilience. Such individuals are always beloved and respected by everyone, serving as shining examples to emulate.
In addition to those who strive to rise, we must also mention those lacking resilience. Some give up at the sight of difficulties, lose heart, and refuse to overcome. No matter how wealthy they may become later, these individuals will only destroy themselves. Such people are truly regrettable.
Resilience doesn't just come naturally; it also requires individuals to cultivate it through experiences of setbacks or challenges. The more we experience stumbling blocks, the stronger and more enduring our resilience becomes. As students, we need to learn and cultivate this quality well because it will be a prerequisite to help us overcome future difficulties.
