Prompt: Social discourse on the phenomenon of idolization
Essay:
In an ever-evolving world, many individuals carve out unique trends leading to personal success. These people become ideals for others to trust and emulate, evolving into idols for their admirers. However, alongside their virtues, idols have negative aspects. Each of us must learn to choose how to become a rightful fan.
In our lives, we strive for perfection and goodness. This is why we worship, adore, and admire someone, desiring to become as admirable as them. An 'idol' is an ideal model, a person or thing revered and adored. Idols serve as guiding stars in various aspects of life, be it in business, sports, entertainment, etc. However, perhaps the most widespread idolization occurs in the fields of music and entertainment. This idol phenomenon has given rise to a new trend, prevalent among the youth, known as the 'idol phenomenon.' It's no longer just idolizing someone; it has become a trend, a pursuit for some segments of society. Unfortunately, this trend has led to regrettable consequences in our lives.
In today's world, as the power of information technology spreads, we can quickly access the latest news from the farthest corners of the globe. This constant development keeps us in sync with the world and helps us gather more information about our idols. Being a true fan means learning positive traits, meaningful gestures, and a refined lifestyle from them. However, many still fail to grasp the true meaning of being a proper idol follower. Sometimes, they become obsessive, leading to unfortunate outcomes. Some idols with reckless lifestyles set bad examples for their fans. Moreover, numerous passionate fans neglect their primary duty of studying, spending time, effort, and money to get closer to their idols, forgetting their academic responsibilities. Some even resort to theft and debauchery if they lack the means to attend their idol's shows. It's clear that idolization done improperly can result in unforeseen consequences.
Idolization is a means for humanity to aspire to goodness and novelty. The right idol motivates us and provides the strength to achieve success in life. However, an improper idol can lead to unforeseen consequences, turning into societal nuisances and villains.
In recent days, as the Vietnamese U23 football team achieves remarkable success on the Asian turf, they have become shining examples of dedication to the nation's football and idols for many young football enthusiasts. Observing them, young football enthusiasts find additional motivation to get closer to their dreams. However, alongside these positive influences, there are negative idols, causing detrimental effects on the behavior of some youngsters. Figures like Tung Son, Bella, and others become examples of bad behavior and negativity. Moreover, many young people turn to theft when lacking funds to keep up with their friends. Heartbreakingly, witnessing actions of cursing and assaulting parents for not providing money to attend their idol's shows is becoming more common. Recently, a newspaper reported a tragic incident where a teenager killed their own parents for refusing to give money to attend their idol's concert. This is a heart-wrenching consequence for a generation influenced by lifestyles and idol worship.
So, the question arises: is idolizing someone good or bad? In my opinion, we should idolize someone, but it must be the right person. Idolize those with the competence, intelligence, and compassionate hearts. Idolizing the right person provides us with extra motivation on the path to our dreams. Don't become mere copies of those with negative traits.
Idolizing someone is entirely justified, but idolize the right person in the right context. Don't become a blind follower, chasing after ordinary pursuits. No one is perfect, so it's crucial to discern what's good and bad about your idol to learn and stay away from negativity.
