II. Standard Sample Essay on Social Discourse on the South China Sea
Vietnam is a country rich in beauty not only in terms of its rich cultural heritage, the lifestyle of its people, but also famous for its natural resources. Fortunate to have the favor of nature, the country possesses a diverse and abundant biological system, forest ecosystems, and equally importantly, many islands and archipelagos lying within the area of the South China Sea. This facilitates numerous advantages in economic development, yet it also brings unexpected disadvantages.
The South China Sea, also known as Biển Đông, is a vast sea area, a continental shelf, and also part of the Pacific Ocean. The South China Sea, with an English name South China Sea, ranks fourth in the world in terms of area, with an area of approximately 3,447,000 km2. The South China Sea has many islands and archipelagos under its jurisdiction, including the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos, which have been under Vietnam's sovereignty for many centuries, bringing significant economic value to the countries in the region and serving as important transportation routes between nations. The Gulf of Tonkin also belongs to the South China Sea, containing thousands of islands, among which Ha Long Bay is famous for its magnificence and beauty and has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site.
The South China Sea has a rich ecosystem with many economically valuable marine species, serving as the main source of income for coastal fishermen. Moreover, it is a transportation route of commercial, tourism, and national defense significance to the nation. Despite the immense benefits, human activities are gradually deteriorating its vitality due to waste disposal, releasing hazardous pollutants directly into the sea, causing increasingly severe pollution affecting marine life and ecosystems.
Furthermore, due to human greed, conflicts arise to gain self-benefits. Specifically, in recent times, our neighboring country, China, has resorted to various tactics to disrupt our activities in the South China Sea to achieve their malicious objectives. Indeed, human greed knows no bounds; having obtained something, people crave for more, and this perfectly resonates with China. Despite being a developed country and known as the most populous country in the world, China relies on its populousness to wield economic and political power, resorting to aggression against neighboring countries. They have successfully used force to occupy the Hoang Sa archipelago, under our sovereignty, but that's not enough. Therefore, those greedy individuals continue to scheme to seize the Truong Sa archipelago. The issue doesn't stop there but becomes even more tense as China deploys drilling rigs and engages in a series of provocative actions in the East Sea, within Vietnam's sovereignty, to push our country into a brutal war. The Chinese government has deployed numerous military ships, warships into the Vietnamese sea to incite conflict, applying military pressure, not stopping at that, they also hinder Vietnamese fishermen from exploiting aquatic resources. The enemy forces provoke directly in our sovereign waters. They manipulate and incite the Vietnamese people, demanding our government to take countermeasures, yet with our military strength and strategic minds, we have handled it properly, disappointing China for not achieving their goals. China's greed knows no bounds, and they still harbor the thought of seizing the South China Sea by any means necessary.
The ongoing sovereignty issues in the South China Sea seem far from resolution, but we must remain vigilant and alert to prevent the enemy from achieving their goals. Throughout history, China has always harbored intentions to invade our country, attempting to assimilate our people, but to no avail. Throughout our nation's history, the Vietnamese people have always struggled to regain their inherent independence, and those efforts have been reciprocated with national peace. However, even after achieving independence, we must remain vigilant and alert to the 'greedy neighbor.' China has many schemes and tactics to sabotage our economy, causing narrow-minded individuals to suffer losses in livestock farming or agriculture by manipulating product prices and then refusing to purchase when people rush to sell, resulting in losses. Therefore, educating people is crucial to help them avoid the 'traps' of the enemy. The South China Sea holds significant value for the nation, so everyone needs to be aware of protecting maritime sovereignty, actively studying and training to understand the enemy's schemes. Diligently maintaining physical fitness to defend the homeland when disputes over islands and seas arise. Actively living healthy lives, protecting the marine environment, and developing marine ecosystems are also responsibilities of each of us.
Nature has bestowed upon us immense values, golden forests, and silver seas, which we must preserve and develop. Besides protecting the sea, we also need to protect the precious forest resources, which are the green lungs of the earth, providing us with fresh and healthy air. In this modern age, everyone's responsibility is crucial, so let's learn to become knowledgeable individuals, contributing to the construction of our homeland. As a student, I realize that my responsibility is to continuously learn to enhance my knowledge, have the opportunity to integrate to promote the beauty of the country, make friends with friends from all continents to broaden knowledge to serve the homeland.
