II. Sample Essay on Social Discourse on the Spirit of Self-Study (Standard)
'Learning to eat, learning to speak, learning to walk, learning to open' is a proverb that our ancestors coined to demonstrate the importance and role of learning throughout the process of human growth and development. Thus, to perfect oneself in knowledge, skills, and character, individuals need to constantly strive and learn through various methods. Regardless of the path of learning one chooses, maintaining the spirit of self-study is always essential.
As we all know, learning is the process of seeking, absorbing knowledge, skills, and experiences distilled and passed down by previous generations. There are many methods for individuals to achieve this purpose such as learning from teachers, learning from friends, learning from books, etc. Regardless of how knowledge is acquired, the spirit of self-study plays an extremely important role. The spirit of self-study is the proactive and positive attitude in the pursuit and absorption of knowledge independently, thereby developing skills and experiences for oneself. Self-study reflects the high level of curiosity of human beings and is completely contrary to passive learning, rote learning.
In life, we can see the role and significance of the spirit of self-study through many examples of people eager to explore and learn. When embarking on the path to save the country in 1911, young man Nguyen Tat Thanh had only two empty hands and knowledge of culture and national traditions. But with a great desire to liberate the nation, after more than thirty years of struggle abroad, he found the right path to save the nation. Throughout that process, he expanded his knowledge and understanding through various specific methods, such as learning foreign languages. Every day, while working, he actively enriched his vocabulary by jotting down vocabulary on small pieces of paper, sometimes on the palm of his hand. He also actively wrote articles in foreign languages and persistently reviewed and corrected errors. Thus, through active participation and a spirit of eagerness to learn, he mastered many languages and applied what he had learned to find the right path to liberation for the nation.
The treasure trove of human knowledge is vast and immense, while human understanding is exceedingly limited. Therefore, individuals need to actively and diligently pursue learning, staying away from passive methods, and avoiding relying solely on memorization to maximize knowledge acquisition. The spirit of self-study also empowers learners to master knowledge, not only grasping it at a superficial level but also comprehending and applying it in real life. In other words, the spirit of self-study enables individuals to realize the effectiveness of the 'Learning by Doing' approach. Actively engaging in learning helps individuals combat the disease of mental laziness, passive learning, and prevents them from falling into rote memorization.
To harness the benefits of the spirit of self-study, each individual needs to recognize the role and significant importance of learning, thereby enhancing their thirst for knowledge. When acquiring new knowledge, we need to actively think and reflect to grasp it more deeply and firmly.
Thus, the spirit of self-study always plays a crucial role and holds significant meaning in every era, especially in the current industrialization and modernization era. As students, we need to further raise awareness and cultivate a proactive, self-aware spirit in our studies.
