II. Sample Essay: Social Discourse on the Ideal as the Guiding Light
Amidst the tumultuous and often cruel currents of life, each individual strives to exist, necessitating the presence of an ideal, a personal goal, and aspiration. Indeed, 'the ideal serves as the guiding light', the beacon illuminating the path so individuals do not lose their way, forgetting the direction of their lives.
Indeed, a life devoid of goals, devoid of ideals, cannot be deemed complete. Ideals denote the right direction for individuals, lofty purposes towards which individuals endeavor to realize. They strive and toil, study and work, all in pursuit of the noble ideals of their lives.
Imagine yourself lost in the darkness of the night, utterly exhausted from groping through the pitch-black lightless void, the space around eerily silent, the chilling wind whispers, making you shiver. You feel like giving up, worn out, fearing the darkness, afraid of continuing without knowing your destination, your legs giving way, exhaustion overwhelming. Then suddenly, you spot a faint glimmer in the distance, a tiny light flickering amidst the night, not grand but piercing through the darkness, illuminating your soul, instilling a glimmer of hope, urging you to sprint towards it. You'd do anything to reach that light source, sprinting through the night oblivious to your surroundings, fear dissipating, fatigue vanishing, your mind fixated on the light, pushing yourself to reach it. Indeed, the image you imagine mirrors your pursuit of your ideals; only when individuals have ideals do they strive relentlessly to attain them.
Ideal is something every individual needs; some believe setting lofty goals provides greater motivation, more effort to achieve them. However, they are mistaken. Setting goals for life is commendable, envisioning one's life purpose is easy, but realizing it is another matter entirely. If your goal is too distant, you'll soon give up after several attempts without success, realizing the goal is unattainable, subsequently losing the drive to continue. Therefore, setting goals for life is crucial; don't be casual with your life, when setting goals to strive for, be meticulous, cautious, and realistic, don't dream of things beyond your capabilities. And that goal must be truly important to you, and you must believe you can persevere to the end.
My teacher once taught us about setting goals, ideals for our lives. He gave an example of setting ideals. He used an example of a lazy person born in impoverished rural Vietnam who daily set the ideal of becoming the President of the United States. He wanted to stand atop the highest peak of the most developed country in the world; upon hearing this, we all laughed because we realized how unrealistic that lofty ideal was, and if he didn't wake up soon, he would waste his life in dreams. Then the teacher continued with a second story, the story of a black boy, who also set a goal for himself to become the President of the United States, although in American history there had never been a black president. Hearing this, we quietly thought this ideal was even more unrealistic than that of our poor friend, but as the teacher continued, we were completely surprised. The whole class listened in silence as the teacher told the story of President Barack Hussein Obama II, he turned the unrealistic into the possible, and after all his efforts, he made a miracle contributing to a significant milestone in American history. At that moment, why couldn't we laugh anymore? Because we all recognized the extraordinariness of that person and understood that if you strive tirelessly, you can achieve your dreams, live full of determination and not give up halfway, then you will know how endless human potential is.
Many people often lament about their lives because they lack ideals, so whenever they encounter difficulties, they give up, they seek one job after another, but then no job seems to be something they can do well. They lack ideals, lack the determination to accomplish their tasks, they will never achieve success. This is quite true for many young people today, many neglect their studies and immerse themselves in electronic games. They don't care about the future and their determination seems to be playing more to level up characters; so many dreams and goals of youth yet all poured into a meaningless game, it's truly sad.
Humans live with aspirations, driven by purpose. Ideals propel us towards success faster, yet many misconstrue them. Ideals should aim for positivity and nobility, yet some embrace negativity. Many seek to fulfill ideals hastily, leading to foolish endeavors. Some dream of wealth but eschew effort, opting instead to seek a rich spouse, using marriage as a ladder to their ideals. However, reality often falls short, as wealth cannot salvage lives that become dependent and lacking respect. Ideals are not wrong, but their misinterpretation leads to unwarranted pain. Indeed, life holds many melancholic tales!
Ideals are guiding lights, illuminating our path with determination and strength to overcome obstacles. Setting realistic ideals allows for their gradual realization. Living with purpose infuses life with meaning and beauty, as everyone strives to achieve their goals. Such is the true way of living.
